EQUALIZATION BOARD MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 31, 1952
The Miami Shores Village Council, sitting as an Equalization
Board, met on the night of July 31st, 1952, at 7:30 P.M. , in the Village
Hall, with the following Councilmen present:
Mayor M. E. Reynolds
Michael J. Franco
William E. Carpenter
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: George A. Frig
.Mrs. John .Rollins of 260 N. E. 99th Street, Lots 4, 5,and the
east 1. 2 .of 6, Block 32, protested that the assessment was too high on her
property in view of the fact that the theatre business on 2nd Avenue had greatly
depreciated her property. No action was taken as the Council did not agree
that the assessment was unreasonable.
Mr. W. C. Murphy of 9328 N. E. 9th Avenue, Lot 6, First Addition
to Marilyn Heights, voiced no complaint when he learned that this land-ass-es s-
ment was raised from $1500 to $1875.
Concerning Mr. MacDonald's request for re-assessment on Lots 43,
1, 2 and 3, Block .23, El Portal Subdivision, it was finally decided that the
assessment would be reduced to $14, 750 which is about 5077 of the market
price, with individual assessmenbas follows: Lot 43 - $10, 000, Lot 1 - $3, 000,
Lot 2 - $1, 000, and Lot 3 - $750.
Mrs. Rebecca Lyons of 899 N. E. 92nd.Street, Lot 1 and the E 1/2
of 2, Block 1, Golden Gate Park.Addition, submitted a letter to the Board

protesting an increased assessment in view of the fact that her property has
no re-sale value because of a cloud on the .title caused by an error in the original
surveyand plat. Council made no change in this assessment as the increase
was only in the amount of $175. 00 which resulted in a decrease in taxes .at the
lower millage rate this year.
The Equalization Board was dissolved at 9:00 P.M. upon motion
made by Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Phillips and passed unanimously.
