PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED BUDGET 1952-53
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 29, 1952
The Miami Shores Village Council held a public hearing at the
Miami Shores Country Club at 8:00 P. M. , July 29, 1952, for the purpose
of reviewing the tentative budget for the fiscal year beginning August 1,
1952. The following Councilmen were present:
Mayor M. E. Reynolds
Michael J. Franco
William E. Carpenter
S. D. Phillips, Jr.
Absent: George A. Frix
There were about 16 Villagers present. Mayor Reynolds opened the
meeting and explained how the land assessments had been increased this year
which allowed a reduction in the millage rate to 9-3/4 as compared to 10-1/2
last year. The Mayor also explained that the Village was in the process of
securing an improvement loan of $135, 000 against the Florida Power & Light
Co. revenue, to be used exclusively for street paving, alley paving, drains
and fire hydrants.
In reviewing the items on the budget, the Mayor received arguments
from some of the citizens present that the Police Department salaries were
too low.
The Golf Course and Library budgets were also discussed at this
hearing.
The budgets were generally accepted by those present and the meeting
adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
