07-17-1951 Regular Meeting 95 REGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL July 17, 1951 A regular meeting of the Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida, was held at 7:30 o'clock P. M. , July 17, 1951, at the Village Hall, with the following Councilmen present: Mayor M. E. Reynolds Mr. George A. Frix Mr. Michael J. Franco Mr. William E. Carpenter Mr. S. D. Phillips, Jr. Absent: None Mr. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present. Upon motion made by Mr. Franco, seconded by Mr. Carpenter and passed, minutes of the last regular meeting were approved as read. Mrs. Hughes of 25 N. W. 104th Street, again appeared before the Council, first to express appreciation for the action taken in regard to the complaint concerning the bedroom door at the home of Mrs. Van Eandt and secondly, to determine if this owner would be forced to close the door upon her return to the city. The Mayor assured Mrs. Hughes that because this door was built without a permit, it would have to be converted back to a window. A proposed ordinance was read concerning the boat speed on Biscayne Canal and upon motion made by Mr. Carpenter, seconded by Mr. Fri.x, ORDINANCE NO. 219 was unanimously passed and adopted, said ordinance being entitled: AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO OPERATE A BOAT IN THE BISCAYNE DRAINAGE CANAL 96 -2- 7/17/51 WITHIN THE LIMITS OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE AT A RATE OF SPEED IN EXCESS OF FIVE MILES PER HOUR; AND PROVIDING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION OF SAID ORDINANCE. A letter was received and read from the Town of North Miami concerning a meeting to be held on July 18th to unify the efforts of the people of North Dade in promoting the Graves Tract for the location of the Inter- American Trade Mart. The Mayor asked Mr. Phillips to represent the Village, as well as, any other Councilman who could attend. A questionnaire was received and discussed from the Mayor of North Miami concerning their preliminary plans for the construction of an incinerator. It was decided that this letter should be answered but that the Village could not commit itself to the participation of the incinerator plans at this time. A resolution was read concerning price control which was pro- posed by Mr. Jerry W. Carter as Democratic National Committeeman for Florida. The resolution was tabled. The note and mortgage were signed for the purchase of the street right-of-way at Biscayne Blvd. and 105th Street. Mr. Charles Yuille had stated he would appear at this meeting to discuss his plans for taking up the wide sidewalk along 100th Street. How- ever, since he was not present no action was taken on his request, although the Mayor asked that the Planning Board make a recommendation. After a review of the unpaid bills, it was moved by Mr. Phillips 98 99 7/17/51 -3- that they be paid. Motion was seconded by Mr. Frix and unanimously passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:12 P.M.
