MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
January 30, 1951
A special meeting of the Village Council of Miami Shores Village,
Florida, was held at 8:00 o'clock P.M., January 30, 1951, at the Village Hall.
All members of the Council were present with the exception of Mr. Carpenter.
The Mayor reported on the organization of Municipal and County
officials of Dade County for the purpose of opposing the proposed state-wide
increase in telephone service rates by the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph
Company; said proposal being for enough increase to guarantee the Telephone
Company a 7*% profit on its investment wherein at present the percentage profit
is set at 6%. The Council discussed the resolution passed by the Mayors and
County Commissioners on January 19, 1951. Whereupon, Mr. Mackenzie moved that
the resolution be approved and that an appropriation equal to 10 cents per
capita of Miami Shores Village be authorized to help defray the expenses of
opposing said rate increase. The motion was seconded and unanimously passed.
The Council then discussed the danger of using a truck in the Recreation
Department to transport children and upon motion of Mr. Mackenzie, seconded by
Mr. Reynolds, unanimously authorized the expenditure of $/x.00.00 from Recreation
Department funds for the purchase of a used school bus from Mr. Tuthill, former
school transportation contractor.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:4.5 P.M.
