REGULAR MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
January 4, 1951
A regular meeting of the Village Council of Miami .Shores Village,
Florida, was held at 7:30 o'clock P.M., January 4, 1951, at the Village Hall.
This meeting was postponed from January 2nd, and the following Councilmen were
present:
George A. Frix, Mayor
M. E. Reynolds
Roy Mackenzie
William E. Carpenter
Absent: Michael J. Franco
Mr. Anderson, Village Attorney, was also present.
The first order of business was a discussion of the proposed resolution
concerning the issuance of $60,000 Certificates of Indebtedness for street and
alley resurfacing, said Certificates to be payable in three years at $20,000 per
year at 3% interest. Upon motion made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Carpenter
and unanimously carried, RESOLUTION NO. 316 was adopted, said Resolution being
entitled as follows:
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ISSUANCE OF CERTIFICATES OF
INDEBTEDNESS TO PERSONS PERFORMING LABOR AND SUPPLYING
MATERIAL TO MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE.
The Village Manager presented two estimates for the installation of
a sprinkler system in the Village Hall lawn, but after discussion the Council
decided to indefinitely postpone this project.
Council received a bill from the Florida League of Municipalities in
the amount of $250.00 for the 1951 membership dues of the Village in the League.
After investigating the list of fees published in the Florida Municipal Record,
it was determined that the population group in which the Village falls requires
only a $100.00 fee. Whereupon, the Council authorized the payment of $100.00
for the 1951 fee.

Mayor Frix then called on Mr. Lee Ward, President of the Chamber of
Commerce, to award the jointly sponsored prizes for home Christmas decorations.
Mr. Ward presented a $50.00 bond as first prize to Mr. B. L. Hoover, 57 N. E.
93rd Street; a $25.00 bond as second prize to Mr. Henry J. Hower, 1298 N. E.
95th Street, and a $25.00 bond as third prize to Mrs. Howard Parish, 1090 N. E.
96th Street. The Mayor then expressed appreciation to Mrs. Fred Kalil, Mr.
John C. Garin and Mr. Will Lindsley for their assistance in the matter as judges.
Mr. Reynolds presented a proposal from the Rader Knappen Tippetts
Engineering Co. to act as engineering advisors to the Village. The Council
instructed the Village Manager to study this proposal and make a recommendation.
Mrs. Knutsen of the Miami. Shores Woman's Club, called attention to
the lack of street lights and street names throughout the Village.
Council instructed the Village Manager to obtain data on the cost of
installing and operating flood lights in front of the Village Hall and Library
buildings.
Mr. H. Rapalyea requested the installation of a traffic light at 96th
Street and Grand Concourse.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 P.M.
