08-30-1950 Special Meeting ' SPECIAL MEETING
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
August 30, 1950
A special meeting of the Village Council of Miami Shores Village,
Florida, was held following a zoning hearing on August 30, 1950" at the Village
Hall, with the entire Council and the Village Attorney present.
Mayor Frix explained this meeting was called to decide whether or
not the Council wished to send out a notice concerning the N. E. 2nd Avenue
zoning referendum. As the ordinance stipulates at least 30 days' notice must
be given, this would require that the letter be sent out by the end of this
week and he had asked Mr. Anderson to draft a notice concerning facts of the
election.
A discussion then followed as to whether or not this election should
be held as scheduled in view of the legal proceedings in this case. Mr. Anderson
stated that the group of Villagers who have filed a petition to intervene did
not feel that the election would be of any assistance to them. It was Mr.
Carpenter's opinion that the Council would be criticized if they changed their
decision with regard to the election and he made the motion that the election be
held. Motion died for lack of a second. Mr. Reynolds then moved that we do
not hold the election. This motion also died for lack of a second.
Mr. Franco questioned the Village Attorney on the possible benefits
of this election and it appeared that at this time the election could do more
harm than good. Then Mr. Reynolds made a new motion that we dispense with
the proposed election of October 3rd in connection with the zoning question on
N. E. 2nd Ave., which was seconded by Mr. Mackenzie and passed on a 4/1 vote
with Mr. Carpenter dissenting.
Mayor Frix then brought up the subject of printing the Village notices

in the SUBURBAN REVIEW instead of sending out individual letters. Mang
Villagers had voiced their objections to this plan and Mr. Frix added that he
didn't think it was a good idea. After this was discussed further, Mr. Carpenter
moved that the motion made at the last meeting concerning publication of notices
be rescinded. Motion was seconded by Mr. Franco and passed on a 4/1 vote with
Mr. Mackenzie dissenting.
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
