July 20, 1949
The Miami Shores Village Council held a public hearing at the Golf Club
at 8:00 P.M., July 20, 1949, for the purpose of reviewing the tentative budgets
for the fiscal year beginning August 1, 1949, as well as, discussing the bus service
on N. W. -2nd Ave. The following Councilmen were present:
George A. Frix, Mayor
M. E. Reynolds
William E. Carpenter
Michael J. Franco
Absent: Roy Mackenzie

of those present were interested primarily in discussion of the bus service on
N. W. 2nd Ave., this matter was taken up first. The Mayor reported that the
survey made by the Village indicated a total of 23 residences had voiced their
objections to the bus service, whereas, a total of 95 were in favor of retaining
it, and thereupon called for a formal motion regarding disposition of the matter.
Mr. Carpenter moved that in view of the vast majority in favor of keeping the
bus line where it is, that the action of the Council will be to retain the bus
service on N. W. 2nd Ave. in its present status. Motion was seconded by Mr. Franco
and unanimously carried.
Mayor Frix also reported that certain of the bus routes in Miami Shores
would be taken over by Coast Cities Coaches as had been set up in an agreement
between that company and Miami Transit but that the Council would make every effort
s to see that they furnished the best service possible to the residents of Miami
Shores Village.
Then the Village budget was reviewed, item by item. Plans for the
new playgrounds were well received. The Golf Course and Library budgets were
