07-20-1948 Regular Meeting 171- MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL July 20, 1948 A regular semi nonthly meeting of the Village Council of Miami Shores Village, Florida, was held on July 20, 1948, at the Municipal offices, follow— ing the Public Hearing of the proposed budget and an Equalization Board meeting. The following Councilmen were present: Roy Mackenzie, Mayor L. J. McCaffrey George A. Frix Absent: M. E. Reynolds Howard I. Parish Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, village attorney, was also present. Mr. McCaffrey moved that the reading of the minutes of the meeting of July 6th be dispensed with and approved as written, which motion was seconded by Mr. Frix and unanimously carried. The next item brought before the Council was in regard to a commercial seaplane base at 112th Street. Mr. Frix made a motion that the Village Attorney lodge a formal protest against this operation. After being seconded by Mr. McCaffrey it was unanimously passed. Mr. Anderson next reported to the Council the Supreme Court's dismissal of the Edwards appeal suit. An ordinance amending Zoning ordinance re home occupations was the next item on the agenda. Mayor Mackenzie suggested that this be tabled until all members' of the Council could be present. The Village Manager next introduced Mr. Orleman who was present to secure permission from the Council to assemble a pre—fabricated boat in his backyard. Upon motion made by Mr. McCaffrey, seconded by Mr. Frix and unanimously carried, Mr. Orleman was granted permission to build or assemble the boat in his yard, provided he complies with our Building Code. 172 169 -2- Concerning street stop signs, Mr. McCaffrey moved that the Village Manager be instructed to purchase 50 traffic signs, which motion was seconded by Mr. Frix and passed unanimously. The Village Manager was instructed to instruct the Chief of Police to make a traffic survey and to change present stop street locations and use the new signs where, in his judgment, they are required. The final item on the-agenda was the unpaid bills for the month of June. After a discussion of various items on the list, Mr. Frix moved that the bills for the month of June be paid which was seconded by Mr. McCaffrey and unanimously carried. The Village Manager then brought up the question of buying a calculator for the Building Inspector and Village office. Mr. McCaffrey suggested that comparative prices be obtained. After a motion duly made by Mr. Frix, seconded by Mr. McCaffrey and carried unanimously, the Village Manager was instructed to buy a calculator at the best price possible. The Village Manager then reported to the Council that the City Hall bonds have been validated and there is a resolution pending for bond bids. However, it is now written for $125,000 and since this full amount is not to be used, it will be necessary.to wait until a bid is accepted before the exact amount of bonds to be sold can be determined. Mr. Frix suggested a survey be made of the amount of furniture that will be required for the new City Hall. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 P.M. Village Lager and Clerk APPROVED: Mayor 170#
