MINUTES OF PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED BUDGET 1948-49
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
JULY 20, 1948
Miami Shores Village Council held a Public Hearing at the Community
House at 8:00 P.M., July 20, 1948, for the purpose of reviewing the tentative
budget for the fiscal year beginning August 1, 1948. The following Councilmen
were present:
Roy Mackenzie, Mayor
L. J. McCaffrey
George A. Fria
Absent: M. E. Reynolds
Howard I. Parish
Mr. Thomas H. Anderson, village attorney, was also present.
Mayor Mackenzie opened the meeting and went over each item with the
Villagers, explaining the reasons for the indicated increases in the budget.
It was suggested by one of the citizens in regard to capital expendi-
tures for improvements on the Golf Course, that these amounts be incorporated
in the minutes of the Council meetings and that these minutes be printed in
the local paper. The Village Manager stated that copies of the minutes of all
Council meetings are sent to the Suburban Review.
Mr. Marion Arnold recommended a $700 increase in the Village Manager's
salary.
It was further suggested that 96th St. be made a thru street instead
of the Concourse.
One of the taxpayers, Mr. Michael Franco, 66 N.E. 107th St., moved
that a Citizens' Committee be appointed of at least 3 and not more than 5
citizens to go over the budget with the Council and report back to the Villagers
in one week. The relative merits of this suggestion were discussed by the
Villagers and the Council, and when a final vote was taken it was opposed by
a large majority.
