07-20-1948 Equalization Board Meeting 45 MINUTES EQUALIZATION BOARD MEETINGS MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL July 20, 21, 23, 1948 The Miami Shores Village Council sitting as an Equalization Board met on the nights of July 20, 21, and 23, 1948, in the Village office. The follow- ing members of the Council were present: Roy Mackenzie, Mayor L. J. I-.cCaffrey George A. Frix Absents M. E. Reynolds Howard I. Parish The meeting of July 20 convened after a Public Hearing on the proposed budget for 1948-49 and the following cases were heard. Mr. Vincent Burke expressed his opinion to the Board that he did not believe our method of assessing by cubic feet was equitable. He pointed out that a small house of two bedrooms, one bath, should not be rated the same as a larger house with more baths and more expensively constructed. Mr. Bellamy who owns Lot 81, Block 2, College Heights stated that the Village assessment of his house was too high in comparison with other houses on his street and with County assessments. The Village Manager stated that he would secure more comparative figures and his case would be again reviewed by the Board and he will be notified of their action. The neat case brought before the Board was in regard to a letter from Mr. Danby concerning a 501 lot he purchased adjoining his property at the corner of N. E. 107th Street and 6th Avenue. This lot is assessed at $12J+8 and was purchased by Mr. Danby to protect his own property but since it has no re-sale value and nothing can be built on it, he considers it worth not more than $500 or $600. The Council will take this case under advisement and Mr. Danby will be 46 1 7 -2- notified of their decision. Mr. Ashcroft co-owner of the above mentioned home at N. E. 107th Street and 6th Avenue, stated that the Village parlbway men completely neglected that area. The Village Manager stated that he would see to it that this area is serviced by our Parkway Department. The Village Manager next read letters from Vincent Peters and A. Monson, both commenting generally on the taxes for the coming year. The meeting adjourned at 10:45 P.M. to be followed by the regular Council meeting. No one appeared before the Board on the night of July 21 and only one person at the final meeting of July 23, said person being Mr. J. W. Griffin appearing in behalf of the Oxar property. Mr. Griffin asked for a reduction in the house assessment of $3,611, which the Board denied. After a review of Mr. Bellamy's case the Board denied a reduction in the house assessment. Concerning Mr. Danby's 50' lot, the Board reduced its assessment to $600. i Village ger Clerk APPROVED: Mayor 168E
