09-30-1947 Special Meeting MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL September 30, 1947 This meeting of the Council was called to order at 9:55 P.M. by Mayor Mackenzie following a joint meeting of the Council and Planning Board to determine what action should be taken in re- gard to flat roof structures. All members of the Council were present. The following motion made by Lir. McCaffrey was duly seconded and unanimously adopted: That the fourth paragraph of Section B-120 of the Building Code (Ordinance ¢#97) reading as follows: "Roof framing for the flat deck type roof construction shall be anchored in a like manner by at least two (2) braces evenly spaced (at third points) of the span. An air space of not less than eighteen (18) inches shall be required between the top of the ceiling joists and the bottom of the roof rafter for ventilation." be and hereby is amended to read as follows: '"Roof framing for the flat deck type roof construction shall be anchored in a like manner by at least two (2) braces evenly spaced (at third points) of the span. An air space of not less than eighteen (18) inches shall be required between the top of the ceiling joists and the bottom of the roof rafter for ventilation, excepting that in modernistic construction, where the architect deems it necessary for architectural effect, single rafters may be used as a combination roof rafter and 091 119 -2- ceiling joist, provided that such rafter-joists are designed by a competent structural engineer to carry the necessary imposed loads, and provided further that adequate insulation is installed on or between the rafters; all subject to the approval of the Building Inspector. " The following motions were made by Mr. Parish, seconded by Mr. Frix, and unanimously adopted: (a) That a letter over the Mayorts signature be sent to each of the architects and engineers attending the meeting this evening, expressing the wholehearted appreciation of the Village Council and the Village Planning Board of their interest in the prob- lems of the Village as indicated by their attendance and by their active and helpful participation in the discussions that followed. (b) That a mimeographed letter be sent to every known architect in Dade County requesting that, prior to the making of working drawings for any structure to be erected in Miami Shores Village, they submit to the Miami Shores Planning Board for discussion preliminary sketch plans and a minimum of two elevations showing in reasonable detail the proposed appearance of the building when com- pleted, and further that the architects be informed that, after the date of this letter, they will be required to comply with the require- ments of Sub-section (b) and Sub-section (d) Section Z-61 of the Miami Shores Zoning Code reading as follows: t1(b) Special attention shall be given to the planning, design, construction, location and conformation to all Ordinances and 8TT 11 �" � . �, � - M• k� A� • F � ` -3- Regulation's of Miami Shores Village." 't(d) Architects and/or engineers shall make the necessary field inspection of the premises involved in the preparation of the plans and specifications, with particular reference to this Ordinance, present grade lines, adjacent buildings and character of existing buildings or structur es.n the Village Council and/or Planning Board reserving the right when deemed necessary to require an affidavit from the architect whose seal appears on, the drawings that these requirements have been met.
