A regular meeting of Miami Shores Village Council was
' held Xane 3, 1947 at 7:30 P.M. All members of the Council were
present except Mr. Jas, C. Kilburn* Village .Attorney Thomas H.
Anderson was also present.
Council dispensed with reading of the Minutes of Regular
Meeting of May 20, 1947 and approved them as typed.
The Village Manager presented a letter from The Board of
Public Instruction of Dade County together with a Resolution-"Urging
the assistance of the County Commissioners, municipalities, and
other political subdivisions and agencies of the State to support the
adoption of a constitutional amendment to require the participation
in. bond elections of not less than 25% of the qualified electors who
are freeholders'. Upon- motion made by Mr. Parish, seconded by Mr.
Reynolds,; and unanimously carried it was recommended that the Council
go on record as approving that Legislation and requested the Mayor to
so notify the School Board.
The purchase of a tree truck to replace the old one now in
use was discussed by the Council, and it was the opinion of the Council
that action be deferred.
The topping of pine trees on 94th and 97th Streets was dis-
cussed and the Village Manager presented a bid of $9.50 per"tre&-from

the Collier Tree Experts for topping to the Village's required
height. The Council. upon motion of Mr. Parish, seconded by
Mr. Reynolds,; directed the Village Manager to get two additional
bids and award the contract to the lowest of the three bidders.
The Village Manager brought to the attention of the
Council the proposed Bay Drive running from Hallandale to McArthur
Causeway on each side of which apartment hotels are to be erected..
It was the opinion of the Council that additional facts be obtained
before any action is taken on this.
A balance of $500* due on L.C. Morris' paving contract
was upon motion made by Mr. Parish, seconded by Mr. McKee, ordered
paid.,
The Village Manager recommended street lights in the alleys
throughout the business section. The Council upon motion of We
Parish, seconded by Mr. McKee, .moved that lights be installed.
Blueprint drawings for the dining room addition to the
Golf Club were submitted to the Council for its perusal and authoriz-
ation for securing bids on this addition. The Village Manager stated
that the Executive Coraxittee of the Golf Club had approved the plans
and that he was instructed to bring them before the Council for its
approval, The Council upon motion of 11r. Parish, seconded by Mr.
McKee,. moved in favor of procuring bids and suggested that the plans
be submitted to the Planning Board for its consideration and approval.
Mayor McCaffrey brought up for discussion an incident of
May 27 wherein a woman telephoned the Police Department stating her

husband was missing and requesting that the Police make a search
of hospitals for him. He brought to the attention of the Council
apparent interference with the Police in their efforts to proceed
in this case by Councilman McKee which 1.1r. McKee denied. It was
the sense of the Council that it be understood that a Councilman
individually has no power to interfere with Police procedure or the
management of the Village except through the Council.
Mrs. M.. H. Poulson appeared in person and brought before
the Council drawings submitted to the Planning Board and denied
approval covering single family residence to be built on Lots 15 and
16, Block 39, M.S. Sect. #1 at 321 N.E. 100th Street. It was the
opinion,. of the Council that the suggested change by the Planning
Board would provide more adequate comfort and ventilation and instruct-
ed Mrs. Poulson to have the architect draw in the upper righthand
corner of the plans the bathroom change as suggested. Mrs. Poulson
is then to present it to the Building Inspector who in turn will ob-
tain the approval of the Planning Board.
Mr. James Noel of the Business Ments Association appeared in
person and stated he had been requested to ask the Council if they
would take some action to remove the palm trees in front of the busi-
ness places on which the Business Men's Association had taken a unan-
imous vote. On motion of 11r. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Parish, it
was moved that the trees in the business district be removed and the

spaces
4spaces left by such removal be built up with cement to match the
rest of the sidewalk..
There being no further business the meeting adjourned
