MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNTCIL
MAY 20, 19+7
A regular meeting of Miami Shores Village Council: was held
May 20, 1947s, at 7:30 P.M. All members of the Council were present
except Mr.. Tas. Ca, Kilburn.. Village Attorney Thomas H. Anderson was
also present.
Council dispensed with reading of the Minutes of Regular
Meeting of May 69 1947 and approved them as typed'.
Upon motion made by Mr. Parish, seconded by Mr. McKee, Council
unanimously adopted. Ordinance No. 169, an ordinance to increase the
number of election judges_ to four_.
Uponimotion made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mr. Parish,
Ordinance No. 170 was unanimously adopted, being .an ordinance permitting
deputy registration clerks and the opening of registration books during
the evening. Mr. Reynolds then moved the adoption of the following
resolution:
BE IT RESOLVED that the registration books of the
Village be kept available and open for registrations
of qualified voters on each weekday evening frau
five until nine o'clock beginning Tune 1 and ending
June 139 19+7• -
We McKee seconded the motion and it was unanimously carried*
The Council upon motion of M'. Parish, seconded by Mr. McKee,
directed that the names of the people deceased and removed from the
Village be stricken from the registration roll, a list of said people
being attached to and made a part of these Minutes..

Council appointed Mr. Irwin G. Redding to serve om the
Planning Board until. June 17, 191}7.
Council discussed possibility of disposing of Lot 9v Block
189. purchased.for parking lot purposes- and action on the matter was
postponed.
Council instructed that notices concerning the coming
election be published in the "Chronicle" and "Villager" in the issues,
coming out near June lst; also that notices be put in the Miami Daily
News and Miami Herald approximately a week later,
A proposal to top the Australian pine trees at 94th Street
and 97th Street was discussed and action postponed until additional
bids are secured.
The'Village Attorney submitted a letter from the Florida
East Coast Railway, Trustees, stating that they expected to install
crossing gates onitheir right-of-way in September. Council requested
the .Attorney to write Mr. Lofton, trustee,. explaining that the Council
accepts the explanationi.but would insist that the installations be
ccmpleted by September 1st.
The closing of Miami Avenue between 111th Street and 115th
Street was then discussed. Mr. Anderson stated he was not sure what the
Council wants to do. Street has never been dedicated. to public use
and if we close it the title to the Street will go to whoever owns the
land. Mr. Anderson suggested we try to arrange with the College if they
own the fee simple title, on the same basis we did with Renuart and enter
a contract by which we could reopen it any time. Said the closing was
simple enough,. but the question is the reopening of it. Mr. Anderson

suggested that the Village Manager coaumunicate with Mr. Thompson, or
whoever he wants to,, and find out what the situation is and what they
would be willing to do,, then the Village Attorney will write it out
in such form as will be acceptable to the College and the Council.
Mr. McKee made objection, saying we have no right to close a through street
which would eventually divert more traffic to N.E. 2nd Avenue. Mr. Iautz
and We Nelson who were present were opposed to the closing of the Street•.
Mr. Reynoldsthen moved that the Village Manager be instructed. to call
a public meeting after due notice to all residents of the Village for an
open discussionion Tuesday, May 27, on the question-namely the closing
of North Miami Avenue between 111th and 115th Streets. Mr. Parish seconded
the motion and it was unanimously carried.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.. at_
