04-10-1945 Regular Meeting MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL April 10, 1945 The 'regular monthly meeting of Miami Shores Village Council was held April 10, 19450 , at 7:30 P.M., with all members present as were the Village Attorney and Village Manager. Minutes of the regular meeting held on March 139 1945, were read and approved. Minutes of the special meeting held on March 20, 1945, were read and approved. Mr. Wilson Smith, publisher of the North Dade County Chronicle appeared before the Council and announced the establishment of said newspaper for the people in the north part of Dade County and asked for financial support from the Village Council. The Mayor stated that he thought the Council individually would do anything that they could but did not believe that at this time the Council could expend any Village funds as requested. Upon motion made by Mr. Thompson, seconded by Mr. Reynolds, the Council instructed that $1875.00 interest, received from the library fund, be used for the purchase of Series G Government Bonds. It was noted that a vacancy exists in the Library Board and it was agreed to fill this vacancy at the next 205 2 - regular meeting. The Council received and accepted with regrets the resignation of Hugh H. Gordon, Jr. as a member of the Village Planning Board, and upon nomination of Mro Thompson, Mro M. R. Harrison was appointed to Mr. Gordonfs term. The Mayor issued a proclamation concerning the National Clothing Drive. A letter was received from Mr. Charles Reakirt, requesting reconsideration on the matter of keeping chickens in the Village, but no action was taken other than instruc- tions to the Village Mquager to fully inform Mr. Reakirt of the Village ordinance concerning poultry. The Council unanimously approved Mr. Co B. Moody's application to the War Department for a permit to construct a bulkhead and fill the property known as Lots N, 0, and P of Re-Sub of Govft Lot 4, and the Village Manager was in- structed to so inform the War Department Engineers. Upon motion made by Mr. Reynolds, seconded by Mro Thompson, the Council approved the installation of 75 new 250 cope lights and ordered all existing street lights changed to 250 cope, Mr. Arnold dissenting on the grounds that this program made an exception to an individual. Upon motion of Mro Reynolds, seconded by Mro Thompson, the Council unanimously approved the renewal of the 10-year street lighting contract with the Florida Power and Light Coo The Mayor instructed the Village Manager to have prepared the Resolution calling the bond election on the 9 211 107 - 3 - Golf Course, to be acted upon at the next regular meeting. Upon motion made by Mr. Arnold, seconded by Mr. Thompson, the Council accepted and approved the audit report of Ring, Mahony and Arner for the six-months period ending January 31, 1945. The Council received application from the American Legion Post for a change of zoning and permit to construct a club house on Lots 15 and 16, Block 30, Miami Shores Sub- Division, and ordered that notice of public hearing on Tuesday, May 1, 19459 be given to discuss this matter, and that the notice include the discussion of possible change to business use zoning on the Second Avenue frontage between 94th and 95th Streets and between 99th and 100th Streets, and a change of zoning between 93rd and 94th and 100th and 101st Streets to library, parks, and public buildings use, the meeting to be held at the Community House at 7:30 P.M. Upon motion made by Mr. Thompson, seconded by Mr. Reynolds, current bills in the amount of $4,460.42, 'were approved and ordered paid. The Mayor instructed the Village Manager to instruct the police department to pay more attention to glass on the streets and to cars running through red lights on Biscayne Boulevard.
