08-08-1944 Regular Meeting d MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL AUGUST 8, 1944 The regular monthly meeting of Miami Shores Village was held on August 8th, 1944. All members of the Council were present, as were the Village Manager and Village. Attorney. Minutes of the regular meeting of July 11th, the public meeting of July 26th, the Equalization Board meetings of July 27th and 28th, and of the special meeting of July 28th were read and approved. Nine (9) residents of Miami Avenue appeared be- fore the Council and presented a plan for replacing the Accacia trees with Melaleuca trees. Pursuant to previous Council action in requiring those who were desirous of removing the Accacia trees to agree on a uniform plan of replacement, and after some discussion, upon motion by Mr. Earnest and seconded by Mr. Thompson, the Council approved the replacement of Accacia trees with Melaleuca trees of not less than 6 ft. in height - Mr. Arnold dissenting. The Council discussed the possibility of paving the alley in Block 75, Miami Shores Subdivision but postponed action in this matter and instructed the Village Manager to have said alley opened for traffic in its present condition. Pursuant to request of C. C. Hay ,the Council, upon motion of Mr. Arnold, seconded by Mr. Thompson, agreed to permit Mr. Hay to maintain a homing pigeon loft on his property because of army use of these pigeons, with the understanding that if complaints are received 2 - from neighbors further action would be taken• Mr. Gertler, 930 N. E. 92nd Street, appeared before the Council and requested cancellation of his agreement with the Village to remove the house at said street address from within the Village limits - his contention being that he had made the house liveable, presentable, and safe. Upon motion of Mr. Arnold and seconded by Mr. the Council instructed that the agreement be cancelled and Mr. Gertler's deposit of $1000.00 be returned. Mr. Stapel appeared before the Council and requested that the street on his 10th Avenue Court be closed to through traffic. The Village Manager and Attorney were instructed to investigate and report back to the Council at the next meeting. Upon motion of Mr . Arnold, seconded by Mr. Earnest, Council instructed that the Auxiliary Police of the Villagebe given expression of appreciation of their fine service rendered the Vilhge, and that Mr. Leighton be given a special letter of commendation. Upon motion of Mr. Thompson, seconded by Mr. Reynolds, Resolution No. relating to Miami Housing Authority was un- animously passed.
