JANUARY 19, 1943.
The monthly meeting of the .:iani Shores Village Council was
held on January 19, 1943, all members being present.
Pdinutes of the meeting of December 8th were read and approved
after corrections, Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Earnest stating that they
had voted for the expense of the telephone extensions at the Defense
Headquarters.
Minutes of the meeting of December 22nd were read and approved.
Mr. Johnson Pace, Attorney for the Gulf Oil Company, appeared
before the Council to discuss the Gulf Oil Company suit against the
Village for a permit to erect a filling station at 95th Street and
N. E. 2nd Avenue, and after some discussion Mr. Thompson moved that
"the Village Attorney be authorized to enter into a stipulation ;providing
for the entry of a permanent peremptory writ of mandamus on the Gulf
Gil suit". Said motion was seconded by idr. Dooly and unanimously
carried.
Upon motion of Mr. Thompson, seconded by idr. Dooly, a request*
for discount on delinquent taxes on property owned by the Deal
estate in Golden Gate Park was denied.
idr. Thompson moved�'that the Village Attorney be instructed to
draw an ordinance providing that the Registration Books of Miami Shores
Village shall remain open at all times accept that they should be
closed for 10 days prior to any general or special election'. Said
motion was seconded by Mr. Dooly and unanimously carried.
Upon motion of idr. Dooly, seconded by Mr. Thompson, a resolution
endorsing Judge Paul D. Barns as a candidate for appointment to the
United States District Court was unanimously passed.
With Mr. Thompson acting as Chairman, Mr. Arnold moved `'that
the question of payment of garbage collection be left to the discretion

of the Village Manager". Said motion was seconded by
Mr. Earnest and unanimously carried.
The Council discussed the Planning Board and concluded
that the Planning Board should continue to function, and
unanimously appointe�"Julian B. Frix, 14r. lam. D. Calley
and Mr. James A. Dixon to serve on said Board.
The Village Manager was instructed to accept : 20.00 for
2 nights operation of the Biscayne Kennel Club to pay for
the policemen furnished by the Village.
December bills in the amount of X1605. 44 were approved
and ordered paid.
Upon motion of idr. Dooly, seconded by Mr. Earnest, the
Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 259 setting
up and approving the procedure for the operation of a public
library in the Village.
The Council discussed the possibility of annexing to.
the Village the county property between N. E. 107th and
115th Streets east of 2nd Avenue, and decided to further
consider tnis matter at a later date.
The Village Manager was instructed to investigate the
area covered by the night police patrol.
