OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
JUNE 20, 1941
The Miami Shores Village Council held a special meeting
on June 20th, 1941. Present were Mr. Arnold, Mr. Childress,
Mr. Earnest, I4Sr. Frix and Mr. Stockdell.
Upon opening the meeting Mr. Stockdell asked Mr. Frix
to take the Chair and Mr. Stockdell made the following motion:
"Mr. Chairman, I move the employment of R.E. Sappenfield,
of the law firm of Kurtz, Reed, Sappenfield and Cooper, as gen-
eral counsel for the Village of Miami Shores to take office
immediately upon the acceptance of this employment, and at a
salary of 0100.00 per month, payable monthly, under the follow-
ing terms and conditions:
ITEI1 1. To act as General Counsel for Miami Shores
Village in all matters pertaining to the Village
functions in an advisory capacity, including the
following specific duties:
(a) The attendance of all Council meeting unless
prevented from doing so by absence from the community,
illness or any other justifiable reason.
(b) To prepare as required from time to time all
Ordinances and documents pertaining to the general
functions of the Village.
(c) The defense of any law suit brought against
the Village of Miami Shores in the Courts of Dade
County, Florida, other than litigation that would
be consideredas extraordinary, except that such

employment shall not cover the preparation of
any pleadings or appearance in court in any
matters relating or pertaining to the present
or future litigation on the Miami Shores Golf
course; provided however that advise and counsel
will be given as to future conduct of the suit,
appeal, if any, as well as conferences which may
be incident thereto.
ITEM 2. When requested to to do by the Village Manager,
to appear as counsel or prosecuter for and in behalf of
the Village, in any matter brought before the Municipal
Court of Miami Shores Village."
Said motion was seconded by Mr. Arnold and when put to a
vote carried unanimously.
Mr. Sappenfield was called and asked to come to the meeting,
and while waiting, I'rlayor Stockdell took the Chair and the Council
passed a motion accepting Geo. E. Holt's resignation as Village
Attorney. Mr. Earnest and Mr. Arnold were named to write a reso-
lution thanking and expressing appreciation for the long service
rendered the Village by Mr. Holt. Mr. Childress dissenting on
the matter of thanks and appreciation.
Mr. Childress then moved that the Council express thanks
and appreciation for the many years service given the Village by
John J. Lindsey and Frank 0. Pruitt, said motion was seconded. by
Mr. Frix and was unanimously carried. Mr. Arnold and Mr. Earnest
were named to prepare proper resolutions on this motion.

Mr. Sappenfield then appeared and accepted the appointment
upon being informed that he had unanimouly been appointed. Mr.
Sappenfield then presented his resignation as alternate Municipal
Judge, which was accepted upon motion of Mr. Frix and seconded
by Mr. Arnold.
Mr. Frix and Mr. Arnold then invited all the Council Mem-
bers, the Village Attorney, and the Village Manager to the Kiwanis
luncheon to be held on Friday June 27th.
After which the meeting was adjourned.
