THE MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
JUNE 18, 1941
A special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was
held on June 18, 1941, for the purpose of canvssing the vote of the
election held on June 17, 1941.
All members were present as were a number of Village Citizens.
Mr. Gwyn Evans, Head of the Election Board, submitted his
report and Certificates of Eglection to the Council, which were
-read by the Clerk and Mr. Lindsey moved that "The report of the
election officials be received, the canvass stand accepted and
certified as a correct result of the election". Said motion was
seconded by Mr. Pruitt and ordinance No. 106 was adopted. Mr.
Pruitt moved that the report from the Election Board on the amend-
ments to the Charter be adopted, said motion being seconded by Mr.
Childress and ordinance #107 was adopted.
Mr. Lindsey then moved that "The members succeeding Council-
man Frank 0. Pruitt, Councilman John J. Lindsey, Councilman L.C.
Childress and Councilman Julian B. Frix, be properly inducted into
office". Said motion was seconded by Mr. Pruitt and unanimously
carried.
Mr. Earnest, Mr. Frix, Mr. Arnold and 1/Ir. Childress then
took the oath of office administered by Judge Geo. E. Holt, and
were inducted into office.
Mr. Holt then tendered his resignation as Attorpey for
Miami Shores Village effective at once. The Mayor, on behalf of
the Council stated that ''he felt the Village to be greatly indebt-
ed to Mr. Holt for the way in which he had handled the Village
legal business from its inception up, and expressed regret that it

had become necessary for him to resign.
The Mayor then stated that he thought the appointment of
a new Village Attorney should be taken care of at this meeting,
as matters were pending that demanded immediate attention. After
some discussion Mr. Childress nominated former Judge Stanley
Milledge as Village Attorney. Mr. Earnest stated that he would
like to have more time to consider the situation and moved that
Mr. Lee Worley represent the Village on a temporary basis until
the next meeting. Said motion was seconded by Mr. Frix. Mr.
Stockdell then surrendered the Chair to Mr. Frix and seconded the
previous motion of Mr. Childress for the nomination of Judge
Stanley Milledge as Village Attorney.
The first motion to be seconded was Mr. Earnest's motion
and upon being put to a vote the result was:

Mr. Earnest Yes
Mr. Frix Yes
Mr. Arnold Yes
Mr. Childress No
and the motion carried.
Upon being put to a vote the result of the motion for Mr.
Milledge's appointment was:
Mr. Stockdell Yes
Mr. Earnest No
Mr. Arnold No
Mr. Frix No
Mr. Childress Yes
and the motion failed to carry.
The Mayor then addressed a welcoming talk to the new members
of the Council.
After which the meeting was adjourned.
