02-19-1941 Regular MeetingMINUTES OF MEETING OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL FEBRUARY 19, 1941 The regular monthly meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held on February 19, 1941. Present were Mr. Stockdell, Mr. Lindsey,Mr. Frix, Mr. Childress and the Village Manager. Absent were Mr. Pruitt and Mr. Holt. The minutes of the meeting of January 16, 1941, were read and approved after correction. Mr. Dance, of the Gulf Oil Corporation, appeared before the Council and ask for reconsideration of the previous action in denying a permit for a filling station on Lots 5 and 6, Block 20, Miami Shores, but no action was taken. The Council discussed the matter of additional street lights for the Village, and instructed the Village Manager to make a survey and report back on this matter. The Council discussed a proposal of the Peoples Water and Gas Company to install a gas distribution system in the Village, but as there was no one present to represent the said Gas Co. no action was taken thereon. A letter was received from the committee of the Dade County Master Plumbers' Association. The contents being noted, the Village Manager was instructed to inform said committee that the Council was sorry but nothing could be done about their complaint. Upon motion made by Mr. Frix and seconded by Mr. Lindsey, the Council instructed that the Village Attorney contact the Page #2 2/19/41 proper officials of the Florida East Coast Railway Co. to see whether or not there could be an amicable agreement reached for the safe operation of their trains through Miami Shores Village, and that failing in this he report to the Council what, in his opinion, to be the appropriate action to aanmplish that with a view to properly safe guard the welfare, comfort and convenience of the residents of the Village. Upon motion made by Mr. Childress and seconded by Mr. Lindsey, the Council approved a plat revising Block 2, Bonmar Park subdivision subject to the approval of the County Engineer. A map showing a proposed extension of the Miami port was presented to the Council, and as the Council did not have full information for this proposal they were unable to approve or object to same, and instructed the Village Manager to so notify the government engineers' office and to suggest that they present further information. The preliminary beautification plan,prepared by Carn Reid, was presented and filed. Mr. Lindsey and Mr. Childress were appointed a Council Committee to investigate the Village garbage disposal activities and make their recommendations. The Council declined approval of a permit to build an addition at 987 N. E. 96th St. closer to the front property line than is permitted by ordinance. A request for $100.00 to help defray expenses of entertaining members of the National Editorial Association was declined due to their being no provision for such expense in the Village budget. Page #3 2/29/41 The Council instructed that a rack be constructed for school children's bicycles along the side of the Village office so that there would be less chance of these bicycles being molested. The Council approved the January bills in the amount of $2186.49, a list of same being attached hereto.
