MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF
MIAMI ,..SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
)MARCH 12, 1940
The regular monthly meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council
was held on March 12, 1940 with all members present.
Minutes of the meetings of February 13 and 24 were read and
approved.
The first business to come before the Council was the discussion
of the expired term of Mr. Ivan I, Brannon, member of the Planning Board.
It was indicated that Mr. Brannon had not cared to be reappointed,
and upon motion made by Mr. Pruitt and seconded by Mr. Lindsey, Mr.
John G. Thompson was unanimously appointed to a three year term on
the Planning Board.
The Council then discussed the proposed Gas Franchise Ordinance,
and decided to refer the matter to the Planning Board for a recommendation.
A Committee from the Pasedena Park section appeared before the
Council and requested that the Miami Shores Village limits be extended
to include Pasedena Park, and after some discussion the matter was
referred to the Planning Board for recommendation.
The Village Manager presented two men as applicants for the
position as Building Inspector, Mr. A. E. Christen and Mr. A. H..McGregor,
and after some discussion the Council approved the employment of Mr.
McGregor on a month to month basis, and,in case of discontinuance of his
services,that he be given 60 days notice.
Mr. Stockdell made a motion that Frank Brady be transferred
from the Police Department to the Recreation Department as Director with
the powers and duties imposed upon him by the Ordinance creating a
Recreation Department. This motion was, seconded by Mr. Milledge and
unanimously carried.

Upon motion made try Mr. Milledge and seconded by Mr. Stockdell,
the Council unanimously appropriated $,500.00 from the Contingent Fund
for the employment of Mr. T. J. Lummus and Mr. Paul R. Thomas to assist
the Village Manager in assessing the real property in the Village for
the ensuing year, the disbursement of the $500.00 to be allocated
according to the recommendation of the Village Manager.
A letter was received from the Vanderpool Insurance Company-
concerning
ompanyconcerning an insurance premium on the Golf Course Club House. No action
was taken on this.
A letter was received from Mr. Hulse of the WPA, and upon motion
made by Mr. Lindsey and seconded by Mr. Milledge the Council instructed
the Village Attorney to answer said letter giving them definite information
as to the matters discussed, and that he proceed with the defense of the
Bessemer suit in any manner he may think proper.
The Council received two applications for licenses to operate a
Package Liquor store in the Village, and upon motion made by Mr.
Milledge and seconded by Mr. Pruitt the Council unanimously instructed
that postcards be sent to all residents of the Village for their ap-
proval or objection in this matter.
The Council approved and ordered paid bills incurred during the
month of February, in the amount of $1,464.84.
Upon motion made by Mr. Milledge and seconded by Mr. Stockdell,
the Council authorized the Village Manager to purchase a motorcycle for
Police Patrol Duty, and appropriated$650.00 from the Contingent Fund to
purchase same, Mr. Kitson and Mr. Pruitt voting negative on this matter.
After which the meeting was adjourned.
