08-04-1939 Special Meeting MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL August 4, 1939 A Special Meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held on August 4, 1939, at 7:30 P. 11. In the Village Office. Present were Mayor Kitson, Mr. Lindsey, Mr. Pruitt, Mr. Stockdell, M Mr. Milledge, the Village Attorney and the Village Clerk. Mr. Miller, 265 N. ➢ .92nd PVF . , appeared before the Council and complained about a number of defects in his new home of less than a year old which he purchased from Mr. O'Dell. He said Mr. O'Dell would not Tight these defects and he had to make the repairs himself. The mayor asked Mr. Miller to write a letter stating his complaints to the Council then same could be taken up in proper form. Mr. Ward, 273 N.W. 92nd St. , appeared in person and also made complaint': about his new home purchased. from Mr. O'Dell being defective. The Mayor asked him to write a letter stating his complaints and then same could E be taken up by the Council in proper form. Mr. `lard also complained. about Mr. O'Dell not moving materials etc. from a lot next to him. Mr. Marion Arnold, 502 N. E. 101st St. , asked the Council if, instead of running the line in the middle of 101st Street between 4th Avenue and 6th Avenue and restricting the South side of 101st Street to 20,000 cu. ft. and the other side of 101st St. 18,500 cu. ft. , to extend the 2 ,000 restriction to the alley of Blocks 91 and 94, so that both sides of the street would be alike. The Council assured Mr. Arnold that they would give his request due consideration. As this meeting was called for the purpose of considering the Recommendations of the Planning Board for raising the cubicle contents f throughout the Village, Mr. Milledge stated that he needed more time to investigate the different zones and as this was the responsibility of the Council and not of the Planning Board he thought there should be plenty of thought given to this by the Council in order not to have to do this all over again in a few months. Mr. Lfilledge said that if he passed on these recommendations at this time he would be doing a lot of guessing as he was not sure that these proposals were what he wanted to vote on. Mr. Stockdell stated that he was not in the mood to accept these recommendations as he though? a price should be tied in with the cubic foot restrictions. The possibility of using a sq. ft. basis in connection with the cu. ft. basis, or using the sq. ft. instead of the cu. ft. was discussed. It was brouglt out that other cities that had used the price restrictionE had abandoned same. Mr. Pruitt brought out that the Planning Board had made a study of the zoning restrictions for four or five years and understood same and were more experienced in this line than the Council but he thougb1 the Council should consider Mr. Wheeler' s case and some of the others. Then Mr. Milledge talked about the area around the College being in a different category and was in favor of getting this restricted as high as possible in this district. Mr. Pruitt thought it would be well to run all East and West lines through the alleys. Mr. Milledge was of the opinion that it would be a good idea to find out the cubic contents of all the present houses in each area and use the average cub® in arriving at a restriction for each particular area. Mr. Lindsey suggested that each councilman take copies of the zoning ordinance, and maps and work out his own idea, then have a meeting, and should the ideas vary same Gean-" always be reconciled and then acted upon. Upon motion made by Mr. Stockdell and seconded by Mr. Pruitt, meeting was adjourned until Monday, August 7th, 5:00 P . M. G? c As illag Manager and Cle APPROVED BY THE COUN IL: 6Zw Mayor
