07-19-1939 Special Meeting • MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL July 19, 1939 A Special meeting of the Miami Shores Village Council was held on July 19, 1939. The Council members present were Mayor Kitson, Mr. Lindsey, Mr. Stockdell, and Mr. Milledge. The fifth member, Mr. Pruitt, was absent due to illness. Also present were the Village Attorney and the Village Clerk. The first business to come before the Council was a request from the Renuart Lumber Company for a special permit to install a saw dust blower system at their woodwork mill on West Railroad Avenue, in the Village, and after due discussion Mr. Lindsey made a motion that if the Planning Board approved this construction that permission be granted to construct this blower system under the supervision of Mr. Simmons, the Building Inspector, ,. upon said motion being seconded by Mr. Stockdell, unanimously carried. The next business to be discussed was Mr. Milledge's question as to what might be done about the third member of the Golf Committee, in that a vacancy existed since the resignation of Mr. Thomas J. Ellis, and upon motion made by Mr. Milledge and seconded by Mr. Lindsey, Resolution No. 237 was unanimously passed and adopted, said Resolution being entitled T 11A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE RESIGNATION OF THOMAS J. ELLIS AS A MEMBER OF THE GOLF COURSE COMMITTEE OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE, AND NAMING A SUCCESSOR THERETO. " The Council then reconsidered the Tentative Budget adopted at the last special meeting of July 14th, studying each item as listed therein, and decided to reduce the Deputy Clerk' s Bond,upon renewal, to $5000.00 instead of the present 010,000.00, which reduced the amount of the budget { by $50.00. The Council also reduced the First Aid Equipment item of the Police Department from $65.00 to $40.00, and while studying the Police Department items, Mr. Milledge moved that $1860.00 of the Police Department budget be eliminated by eliminating the $155.00 per month item included r. therein. There was no second to this motion. After some discussion about this matter, Mr. Stoekdell moved that the Marshal' s salary be cut to $40.00 per week and that the three deputies salaries be made 1135.00 per month, thereby redueXing the Police Department budget by $800.00. This .motion was seconded by Mr. Milledge and was carried by unanimous vote by roll call. Immediately Mr. Lindsey gAve notice that he would ask for reconsideration of this action of the Council at the next meeting and the Mayor ordered that this be the first matter of business to be taken up at the next meeting and set the date of Friday, July 21st to hold same. The Council also reduced the item of General Car Repairs in the Police Department from $225.00 to $150.00 ,and eliminated $50.00 for Files and Miscellaneous Office Supplies in this department, and reduced the item of Flashlights, Batteries, Ammunition etc:. from $100.00 to $50.00.
