07-06-1939 Special Meeting MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
July 6, 1939.
Council
A Special Meeting of the Miami Shores Village was held on July 6, 1939,
in the Village Office at 7:30 P.M.
Mayor Carlisle and all members of the Council along with the Village
Attorney and the Village Clerk were present.
Minutes of the meetings of June 13, June 19, and June 21, 1939, were
read and approved.
Upon motion made by Mr. Lindsey and seconded by Mr. Pruitt, action of the
Council at their meeting of June 21, 1939, approving the charging of $240.00
to the Contingent Fund for vacations for the Police Force was rescinded due
to the fact that other arrangements were made.
The next business to come before the Council was the canvassing of
, returns of the Run-Off election held July 5, 1939, for the election of two
Councilmen.
The Certificate of Election, filed by the Election Officials, was
,read by the Clerk, certifying that Stanley Milledge and W. Meade Stockdell
'received a majority of the votes for the two vacancies on the Council and
by reason thereof were duly elected as members of Miami Shores Village

Council. Upon motion made by Mr. Lindsey and seconded by Mr. Pruitt,
said Certificate of Election was approved, a copy of same being attached
to and made a part of these minutes.
Upon motion made by Mr. Gordon and seconded by Mr. Lindsey, Ordinance
No. 83 was unanimously passed and adopted, said Ordinance being entitled
"AN ORDINANCE RATIFYING, APPROVING AND ACCEPTING THE
REPORT AND CERTIFICATE OF THE ELECTION JUDGES OF MIAMI
SHORES VILLAGE AS TO THE RESULT OF THE RUN-OFF ELECTION
TO DETERMINE THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES TO FILL THE TWO
VACANCIES ON MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL HELD IN SAID
VILLAGE ON JULY 5, 1939. "
Mr. Carlisle, as the retiring Mayor, welcomed the two new members to
the Council. Certificates of Oath of Office were signed by the new
councilmen and sworn to, same being attached to and made a part of these
minutes, after which Mr. Carlisle and Mr. Gordon retired from the Council.
Upon motion made by Mr. Kitson and seconded by Mr. Lindsey,
Mr. Frank 0. Pruitt was named temporary Chairman of the Board.
As this was a called meeting and not a regular meeting no further
business was taken up and the meeting was adjourned.

- CERTIFICATE OF ELECTION
WE, the undersigned duly appointed, qualified and acting
election officials of Miami Shores Village, appointed so to act by the
laws and ordinances of said Village at the run-off election to fill
two vacancies on the Council of said Village, do hereby certify, that
as such election officials, we did hold said run-off election at the
Village Office, 9533 Northeast Second Avenue, Miami Shores Village, to
fill two vacancies on the Council thereof, and that the following
named persons duly qualified candidates in said election received a
number of votes opposite their names:
Hugh H. Gordon Jr. 101
Stanley Milledge 160
W. Meade Stockdell 160
John .G. Thompson 154
The number of qualified electors of Miami Shores Village
voting at said election constituted the total of 318.
According to the votes received as above tabulated Stanley
Milledge and W. Meade Stockdell received a majority of the votes for
, the two vacancies on said council and by reason thereof are duly
elected as members of Miami Shores Village Council.
We further certify that the votes as listed opposite the
' names of the respective candidates constitutes a true and correct
number received at slid election by each of them and that said election
was held in accordance with all the laws and ordinances of the Village
. and all laws of the State of Florida applicable thereto:
