01-17-1936 Special Meeting MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL
A* special meeting of The Miami Shores Village Council
was held January 17, 1936, at 7:30 P. M., at the Village office.
A quorum of the Council was present as was the Village Attorney
and Village Clerk.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved with corrections as follows: All home owners eligible
to Homestead Exemption for 1935-36 to be notified at once; and
that Village Attorney was authorized to make adjustments as
presented.
Upon motion of Mr. Carlisle, seconded by-.,Mr. Goll,
a resolution was passed permitting completion of a cottage at
halliwell 's Tourist Camp.
Mr. Phillips made an offer to settle litigation in the
case of Miami Shores Village vs s

Company, Tresulee Company and The Municipal Investment-Company,
original owners of property in the suit, said offer being the
payment of face amount of taxes described in the bill and for
paying face amount of taxes on certain lots not involved in the
suit mentioned, copy of which has been furnished the Village Atto-
rney. The motion was made by Mr. Carlisle, seconded by Mr. Goll
that the Village Attorney and Mr. John J. Lindsey, the absent
member of the Council, confer with Mr. Phillips on this matter
and that the Council accept the recommendation of the Village
Attorney and Mr. Lindsey on this matter, and if offer was
accepted do so by resolution.

Opinion from the Village Attorney stated that no monies
from the Village treasury could be appropriated to aid in the pur-
chase of heating equipment for the Miami Shores School.
The Village Attorney was authorized to*4_1k�— 4
foreclosure suit the case of Miami Shores Village vs H. L. Clark
and Sons and accept their offer to pay all taxes and interest
due Miami Shores Village on or before April lsts, 1936.
The Village Attorney was instructed to write The
Florida East Coast Railroad receivers, demanding that a signal
light be installed at the crossing of N. E. 96th Street and the
railroad tracks.
Upon motion of Mr. Carlisle, seconded by Mr. Goll,
the Council approved a plan of the Miami Tranbit Company changing
the bus route in Miami Shores Village,�'a copy of which has been
placed
� in the Village file. The Council instructed the Village
6�s�tto write a letter of approval of this plan recommending
that the bus fare be reduced to ten cents.
Upon motion of Mr. Goll, seconded by Mr. Carlisle,
Ordinance number 37- was passed,being an ordinance amending
Ordinance number 119 reducing the restrictions in zone 3 of
properties described in section 2 of said Ordinance number 37,
prohibiting the erection of buildings less than 5 feet from any
side lines of said properties.
Mr. Ring, the Village Auditor, reported his findings of
then ecent special audit. He pointed out that tha expense for
maintaining street lights in the Village was not included in the
1935-36 budget. Mr. Ring redommended the panchase of additional
filing equipment for the Village office, the installation of
separate garbage tax receipts and an increase in the salary of
the assistant to the Village Clerk.
The Village Clerk was instructed to determine the
amount of monies needed to take care of these matters and report
next Council meeting. The matter of street lights to be the first
order of business.
The Council decided to postpone any action on 1934-35
tax foreclosure as the delinquent tax total was not large enough
to warrent foreclosure at this time. The Council approved and
ordered paid the bills incured by the Village in December 1935,
also Mr. Ring's bill for the special audit.
It was decided to hold a special meeting January 23,
19362 for the purpose of discussing the adoption of the Planning
Board, after which the Council adjourned.
