08-14-1933 Regular Meeting MINUTES OF A 1VIR-14-TING OF
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE COUNCIL.
August 14, 1933.
• A regular monthly meeting of the Council of
Miami Shores Village was held at the village offices on Monday
evening August 14th, 1933. Those present were, Frank 0. Pruitt,
Mayor, John J. Lindsey, Otto H. Goll and John M. Carlisle, Councilmen,
and the village clerk and village attorney.
The mayor called the meeting to order and the
minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The mayor presented the question of the village
donating funds for the help of unemployment relief and after some
discussion the council was of the opinion that certain funds might
be taken from other appropriations and used for this purpose, but
definite action on the question was deferred to a later date.
The mayor then reported that he had been in
correspondence with Mr. Hugh H. Gordon Jr., absent member of the
council, and that Mr. Gordon had tendered his resignation from
office, due to the fact that business interests were keeping him
away from the village and therefore was definitely intending to make
his residence elsewhere. The mayor then suggested to the members
of the council that they give some thought concerning the appointment
of another councilman to replace Mr. Gordon.
Bids for abstracting services in connection with
• contemplated tax foreclosure proceedings were reviewed by the council
and after due consideration, upon motion of Mr. Carlisle, seconded
by Mr. Goll, the council voted to accept the lowest bid, said low
bid being that of the Lawyers 'title Company of Miami, Fla., this
acceptance to be drawn up by the village attorney in the form of a
written contract, specifying a price of $375.00, any variation of
the number of title searches above or below 1144 to be made on the
basis of thirty five cents ( $0.35) per lot or parcel.
'The question of letting of contract for legal
advertising in connection with the tax foreclosure was deferred until
the September meeting of the council, Mr. Holt and Mr. Lindsey being
appointed as a committee to draw up a letter of specifications on
which bids for advertising are to be based.
Mr. Holt, village attorney, read an opinion on
the question of tax exemption on vacant property owned by a church
or other religeous organization, said opinion indicating that
under the present provisions of the Village Charter, it would
not be possible to allow such exemption .
There being no further business to discuss, the
meeting was adjourned.
