07-31-1933 Special Meeting SPECIAL MEETING OF
MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE
COUNCIL.
July 31, 1933.
. In accordance with a motion passed at the public
meeting of taxpayers and citizens of the Village, which was held
at the community club house on the evening of July 25th, the
village council re-convened at the village offices on Monday
evening July 31st, 1933, to sit as a budget adjustment. and tax
equilization board, there being present Frank 0. Pruitt, Mayor,
John M. Carlisle, Otto H. Goll and John J. Lindsey, councilmen
and the village clerk and village attorney.
Mr. Krames of the Krames-Corlett realty company
presented a protest in writing concerning the valuations placed
on properties in North Shores Crest Subdivision. The matter was
discussed in detail and also the matter of assessments of other
properties in the immediate vicinity of North Shore Crest and by
mutual agreement of the council, Mr. John J. Lindsey and Geo. E.
Holt, attorney for the village, were appointed as a committee to
go into the legal side of the question and report back to the council
and if advisable draft a proposed ammendment to the present zoning
ordinance or draw a new ordinance to cover specific building
• restrictions in this territory.
The tax assessment roll was again reviewed by the
council and after considerable discussion, the village tax assessor
was instructed to reduce the assessments on all lands in the
village classified as acreage thirty-three and one-third ( 33=1/3%)
percent. Also the tax assessor was instructed to increase the
assessed valuations on lots 7 and 8 in block 54 of Miami Shores
subdivision Section 2, so that such new assessment would be
commensurate with other properties in the village of similar
• class and location.
• A form letter, jointly drafted by Mr. Lindsey and
Mr. Holt, bearing the salutation "To Delinquent Tax Payers of
Miami Shores Village" was presented and read by the council and
after reviewing same, the council instructed the village clerk to
send a copy of this letter to each delinquent tax payer with the
councils approval as soon as a mailing list could be prepared.
There being no further matters of business to
discuss, the mayor announced that the meeting was temporarilly
adjourned until the following day in order to allow time for any
further objections or protests to the tax assessment roll and
budget. Aug. 1, 1933
Therefore, the council again met on Tuesday evening,/
Frank 0. Pruitt, Mayor and Otto H. Goll and John J. Lindsey,
Councilmen, and the village clerk and village attorney being
present.
The question was raised as to whether or not
properties owned by a church or religeous organization could be
exempted from taxation and after some discussion of the matter,
the village attorney was asked to give an opinion on the question
as soon as possible .
After a further discussion of the proposed budget,
upon motion of Mr. Lindsey, seconded by Mr. Goll and unanimously
passed, the budget was given final approval as presented.
There being no further objections or protests to
the proposed tax assessment roll, upon motion of Mr. Goll, duly
seconded by Mr. Lindsey and unanimously passed, the tentative
tax assessment roll was given final approval by the council, subject
• to the changes which the tax assessor was instructed to make.
Then, in accordance with the provisions of the

village charter, upon motion of Mr. Lindsey, duly seconded by Mr.
Goll and unanimously passed, a millage rate of twelve and nine
tenths ( 12.9) mills was set as the millage rate to be used by the
tax assessor in computing the amounts of taxes to be levied for
the tax year, August 1, 1933 to July 31, 1934.
There being no further business to discuss, the
meeting was adjourned.
