Dear Mr.Hazout: Pursuant to your request we have analyzed the installation of the new windows into the existing precast concrete window openings. The existing pre cast openings have a concrete "buck" or lip where the original window flanges were installed. Due to the fact that the new impact windows have a larger flange width than the original windows, there exists a gap of up to 1" between the edge of the concrete buck and the edge of the window flange. We recommend installing a strip of 2x pressure treated wood with a minimum width of 3/4" along the full length of the flanges to provide solid substrate under all the new window flanges. Fasten the strip with I/4"e X 2- 3I4" long at 8" on center (Figure 1). Window anchors must be fastened to the existing concrete buck and meet all the approved NOA requirements including fastener size, edge distance,and embedment. We find that these connections are capable of supporting the design loads and are in accordance with the 2014 Florida Building Code.
