Structural Review Clerk Dr. James Rosado 148 N.E. 110th Street Miami Shores, Fl. 33161 Cell: (305) 389-2704 Building & Code Department Miami Shores Village 10050 N.E. 2nd Avenue Miami Shores, Fl. 33138. December 20, 2013 Dear Building & Code Committee: C F DEC, 2 0 A013 BY. ___L'— - F -a 1 -2,- 2r0L, This letter is to confirm that I have decided to cancel the permit for my front gate at 148 N.E. 110 Street. The gate and gate posts have been removed in accordance with the Miami Shores Ordinance. Unfortunately, I do not agree with the height restrictions (3.5 feet for front gate) that are required by the codes for several reasons. First, the height does not provide the safety that has become an increasing concern as reported by the Miami Shores Police Department at our recent Neighborhood Crime Watch Meeting (of N.E. 110 Street). Since the gates removal, I have felt unsafe given the increasing number of incidents whereby residents have been assaulted or forced into their homes and robbed. Secondly, the process of requesting a variance is cost prohibitive. Thirdly, when considering factors such as scale, architectural elements, and aesthetics, among others, I could not allow myself to concede to such a height. Thus, I have had the gate and gate posts removed. I realize how complex it is to address and balance many of the concerns of a village and its residents. As such, I greatly appreciate the arduous work your Departments continue to do for all of the residents of our Miami Shores Village. Respectfully, James osado, Ph.D. Associate Professor Senior of Psychology Department of Social Sciences Miami Dade College, Wolfson 300 N.E. 2 Avenue, Suite 3506-9 Miami, Florida 33132 Office: 305-237-3272 Cell: 305-389-2704
