Intelligent Sensing Intelligent Sensing is a set of software algorithms that provide the AFP- 300/400 with industry- leading smoke detection capability. The development of these sophisticated algorithms are made possible by the close coop- eration between Notifier and System Sensor, the world leaders in fire detection and alarm technology. These complex algorithms require many calculations on each reading of each detector, and are made possible by the very high speed microcomputer used by the AFP- 300/400 (16 -bit RISC Reduced Instruction Set Computer). O Drift Compensation and Smoothing. These al- gorithms (U.S. patent pending) identify and compensate for long -term changes in the analog readings from each smoke sensor. Long -term changes are usually caused Analog by dust accumulation inside the smoke chamber. Drift Reading compensation allows the detector to retain its original ability to detect actual smoke, and resist false alarms, even as dirt accumulates. It reduces maintenance re- quirements by allowing the system to automatically per- form the periodic sensitivity measurements required by NFPA. Smoothing filters are also provided by software to remove transient noise signals, usually caused by elec- trical interference. Different smoothing algorithms are used, depending on the sensitivity selection of each de- tector. © Maintenance Warnings. When the drift compensation performed for a detector reaches a certain level, the performance of the detector may be compromised, and special warnings are given. There are three warning levels: (1) Low Chamber value, usually indicative of a hardware problem in the detector; (2) Maintenance Alert, indicative of dust accumulation that is near but below the allowed limit; (3) Maintenance Urgent, indicative of dust accumulation above the allowed limit. The Maintenance Alert level allows maintenance before the performance of the device is compromised. © Sensitivity Adjust. Nine sensitivity levels are provided for alarm detection. These levels can be set manually, or can change automatically between day and night. Nine levels of pre - alarm sensitivity can also be selected, based on predetermined levels of alarm. Pre -alarm operation can be latching or self - restoring, and can be used to activate special control functions that are a subset of the alarm control program. O Self- Optimizing Pre - Alarm. Each detector may be set for "Self- Optimizing" pre - alarm. In this special mode, the detec- tor "learns" its normal environment, measuring the peak analog readings over a long period of time, and setting the pre -alarm level just above these normal peaks. This allows extremely sensitive pre -alarm capability with reasonable protection against non -fire signals. Prealarm Threshold Normal Threshold Time (days) ♦ Awa-4. f © Cooperating Multi- Detector Sensing. A feature of intelligent sensing is the ability of a smoke sensor to consider readings from nearby sensors in making alarm or pre -alarm o decisions. Using logic algorithms, each sensor can include up a Alarm to two other sensors in its decision. Without statistical sacrifice _ — — — — — — — — in the ability to resist false alarms, it allows a sensor to increase C) Combined its sensitivity to actual smoke by a factor of almost 2 to 1. Multi- CO 3 sensors detector sensing also allows the combination of ionization with Y photoelectric technology in reaching an alarm decision. p Time (minutes) 5262aw5. f DN -5262 • 10/31/05 — Page 5 of 10 FIELD PROGRAMMING OPTIONS AUTOPROGRAM Autoprogram is a timesaving feature of the 300/400. It is a ROM tSE 3 " special software routine that allows the 300/400 to "learn" what devices are physically connected and automaticallyb .. load them in the program with default values for all param- eters. Requiring less than 30 seconds to run, this routine allows the user to have almost immediate fire protection in .1s. B0 dS 19 MODS 1-2: 93 DETS, 35 MODS a new installation, even if only a portion of the detectors PANE OUTPUTS:24 BELLS: 04 are installed. The routine will find all intelligent detectors and modules, and present them to the installer for edit of the de- fault option selections, if desired. If a device is found that already exists in memory, autoprogram skips over that device (only new devices or missing devices are presented to the installer). Often the installer will perform autoprogram as a first step in a new installation, then upload the program into a PC to add all custom labels and other information, then download from the PC to the 300/400. KEYPAD PROGRAM EDIT The 300/400 has the exclusive feature of full program cre- ation and edit capability from the front panel keypad, while continuing to provide fire protection. The architecture of the 300/400 software is such that each point entry carries its own program, including control -by -event links to other points. This allows the program to be entered with indepen- dent per -point segments, while the 300/400 simultaneously monitors other (already installed) points for alarm conditions. ENTER ; PROO .OFD STAT PASSWORD, THEN tNTE9,"- <ESUAPE1 TO -ABORT),* * * ** 0 =CLR 1 =AUTO 2= POINT 3= PASSWD 4= MESSAGE G =ZONES 6= PL FUNCT 7 =S5?STEM B= GHECIG Pl G In addition to avoiding system shutdown, program edit from the panel keypad has the advantage of not requiring an on -site PC. This can save significant installation time for minor program changes. The 3001400 site - specific program is password protected, and all information is stored in nonvolatile memory. Menu "trees" are provided to lead the trained installer through the program steps without the necessity to refer to the programming manual. VeriFire® Software PC software is available for off -line programming and test utility that can greatly reduce installation programming time, and increase confidence in the site - specific software. VeriFire® is a Windows based program providing techno- logically advanced capabilities to aid the installer. The in- staller may create the entire program for the 300/400 in the comfort of the office, test it, store a backup file, then bring it to the site and download from a laptop into the panel. The program includes error checks for common program- ming mistakes, such as an input point that does not activate any outputs, or an output point that is not linked to any inputs. It also includes a simulation routine that will list all of the output points that are activated by a particular input point (alternatively, it will list all the input points that are linked to a particular output). Although this does not eliminate on -site testing, it greatly increases confidence in the final installa- tion. For example, a 200 -input and 100 - output point system, without using the software, could require 20,000 test ob- servations to verify all possible 1/0 links. The software includes a compare routine, pictured at right, that can also greatly help the installer. When a new program is created, it may be compared with a previous version and differences are highlighted. If the program is modified from the panel keypad, it may be uploaded into the PC, and com- pared with the previous version stored on disk. The identifi- cation of program differences greatly helps the installer in testing the installation. NFPA 72 requires that reacceptance test of a fire alarm system be performed on 100% of all points that are "known" to be modified. The software allows the installer to determine the exact points that are changed. 5262ve2.Dt Page 6 of 10 — DN -5262. 10/31/05 ysien PrRartreters , rro.Mrm+IMP +MN: K; PLACE YOUR dB CHAR, CUSTOM MESSAGE MERE tyi t_ ' ' .- t P ....... .... .. s wm SAenee TlM.G'EQ =9BU yt {p' -.. . Maximum battery capacity: 18 AH. Applications Example 1: Expand notification appliance power an additional 6.0 A (FCPS -24S6) or 8.0 A (FCPS - 2458). Use up to four Class B (Style Y) outputs or four Class A (Style Z) outputs (using ZNAC -4). For example, the FACP notification appliance circuits will activate the FCPS when reverse - polarity activation occurs. Trouble conditions on the FCPS are sensed by the FACP through the notification appliance circuit. Example 2: Use the FCPS to expand auxiliary regulated 24- volt system power up to 4.0 A (FCPS -24S6) or up to 6.0 A (FCPS - 2458). Both resettable and non - resettable power options are available. Resettable outputs are created by con- necting the resettable output from the FACP to one or both of the FCPS inputs. Example 3: Use addressable control modules to activate the FCPS instead of activating it through the FACP notification appliance circuits. This typically allows for mounting the FCPS at greater distances* away from the FACP while expanding system architecture in various applications. For example, an addressable control module is used to acti- vate the FCPS, and an addressable monitor module is used to sense FCPS trouble conditions. Local auxiliary power output from the FCPS provides power to the addressable control module. *NOTE. Addressable FACPs are capable of locating control and monitor modules at distances of up to 12,500 feet (3,810 meters). Sync Follower /Generator Note In some installations, it is necessary to synchronize the flash timing of all strobes in the system for ADA compliance. Strobes accomplish this by monitoring very short timing pulses on the NAC power which are created by the FACP. When installed at the end of a NAC wire run, the FCPS -24S6/ -2458 can track (i.e. "follow ") the strobe synchronization timing pulses on the existing NAC wire run. This maintains the overall system flash timing of the additional strobes attaches to the FCPS. When the FCPS -24S6/ -2458 is configured (via DIP switch set- tings) as a "sync follower;' the FCPS's NAC outputs track the strobe synchronization pulses present at the FCPS's sync input terminal. The pulses originate from an upstream FACP or other power supply. When the FCPS -24S6/ -2458 are configured (via DIP switch settings) as a "sync generator," the FCPS's sync input termi- nals are not used. Rather, the FCPS is the originator of the strobe synchronization pulses on the FCPS's NAC outputs. In "sync generator" mode, the sync type (System Sensor, Whee- lock, or Gentex) is selectable via DIP switch settings. Standards and Codes The FCPS -24S6 and FCPS -2458 comply with the following standards: • NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code. • UL 864 Standard for Control Units for Fire Alarm Systems (NAC expander mode). • UL 1481 Power Supplies for Fire Alarm Systems. Intelligent detectors can be mounted in either flanged or flangeless bases depending on junction box selec- tion (see Junction Box Selection Guide). Across this product line, detectors plug in easily to the base with SEMS screws; and models employ various 12 to 24 AWG wire ranges. Relay, isolator, and sounder bases can be used to meet local code requirements. Relay bases provide one Form -C contact relay for control of auxiliary functions such as door clo- sure and elevator recall. Isolator bases allow loops to continue to operate under fault conditions and automatically restore when the fault is removed. Sounder bases are available in temporal and non - temporal pattern versions depending on whether the signal is to be used for evacuation purposes.
