OA • RE: Barry University Wiegand Center and Wiegand Annex Fire Alarm Upgrade Chief Mena, 1 sr On . behalf of Bally University, we respectfully request a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy Extension in lieu of the previously approved phasing Agreement in December of 2010 at the Wiegand Center Room 234 and Wiegand Annex 102. Due to circumstances beyond our control, the installation of the new Fire Alarm system has been delayed because of the discovery of asbestos in the above ceiling areas of the Wiegand Center and the abatement process. At the moment, the building has been evacuated by staff and - students and the abatement proms is underway. Based upon the abatement contractors schedule the earliest that the Fire. Alarm sub - contractor, Sentry Security, Inc., can physically get into the building is August 8, 2011 to begin the installation of the Fire Alarm Upgrade. Sentry has submitted their Fire Alarm permit application and documentation to Miami -Dade Fire Marshall's office on August 3, 2011, Process # M2011008470. With a commencement anticipated August 22, 2011, pending permit and completion of the abatement, Sentry Security, Inc. anticipates a completion date of October 14, 2011, for both buildings. With this schedule adjustment to the Fire Alarm upgrade on or before October 14, 2011, the completed upgrades shall be ready (2) months earlier than our previous commitment We trust that the TCO will extended for the two small renovations previously performed until such time that the Fire Alarm system upgrades that include Wiegand Center Room 234 and Wiegand Annex 102. have been completed as per the original agreement. Again, we thank you for the allowing us the opportunity to phase in the upgrades. Respectfully, onica Soto Barry University Associate Vice President Business Services & Facilities. M-II Spray- Applied Fire Resistive Material CAFCO® FENDOLITE M -II is a single package, factory controlled Spray - Applied Fire Resistive Material (SFRM) based on vermiculite and portland cement. It is specifically developed for spray - application to structural columns and beams in exterior environments and interior situations where higher levels of abrasion resistance and hardness are necessary. FENDOLITE TG has been developed for application by trowel, in areas where spraying is impractical or not permitted. Although FENDOLITE is 1/3 the density of concrete, thus significantly reducing dead load, it is also highly durable and resistant to cracking or spatting under mechanical impact. FENDOLITE may be used in either boxed or contour designs and the finish CHARACTERISTIC ASTM Method may be spray - textured or troweled smooth. FENDOLITE M -II and TG are classified by Under- writers Laboratories for up to 4 hours protection. New EC Motors for PROS Top Mount Packaged Refrigeration Systems Introducing the most energy efficient motor available for packaged refrigeration systems. Choosing energy efficient motors for your packaged systems can provide significant energy savings and lower operational costs. Additionally, because these motors can help reduce heat load (and system run - time), they can improve the reliability and longevity of refrigeration equipment. Electronically Commutated (EC) motors even further improve energy efficiency and equipment reliability. EC motors by InterLinkm' are up to 75% efficient — that's a 51 -59% increase over shaded pole motors and a 30-35% increase over PSC motors. As with PSC motors, you save money both directly from a decrease in motor watts and also from a reduction of heat gain into the refrigerated space. Permanent Split Capacitor (PSC) motors can significantly lower your energy costs. PSC motors average 30 -35% higher efficiency than shaded pole motors and offer dual energy savings by reducing motor watts and heat gain into the refrigerated space. eialerait; PROS Top Mount 1 Performance, Capacities and Specifications Model PT /PTT High /Medium Temperature Air Defrost Cooler Application rSavings are calculated using a cost of $.09 /kWh °'TForQutdoor, Nforindoor. EC motors by InterLink"' are up to 75% efficient - that's a 51 -59% increase over shaded pole motors and a 30 -35% increase over PSC motors. Custom Connections Available • Fiberglass Reinforced Models Available www.orionfittings.com Section D Tanks DI Product Description Orion Neutralizing and Dilution Tanks are rota- tionally molded from virgin High Density Polyethyl- ene conforming to ASTM D1248 for Polyotefin materials. Tanks can be used for service of 180 °F in continuous service, or intermittent use of 212 °F. Tops are bolted or fusion welded to the Engineer's Specification, with all fittings made of Polyethylene and welded into all penetrations of tanks. General Information Neutralization of corrosive, toxic and flammable wastes is necessary to the environment and piping systems, even when quantities and concentrations are small. Such wastes can cause physical damage to a building's piping or outside sewer systems and, if effluent is being discharged to the environment (such as rivers and lakes), severe damage can result to wildlife and water sources. Neutralization is the process whereby acids and alkalis are rendered harmless. The degree of neu- tralization can be measured by a system known as pH (positive Hydronium ions). The degree of mea- surement is a pH number of 7, which is neutral. Acids range from 0 to 6.99. Alkalis range from 7.01 to 14. The smaller the number, the higher the con- tent of acidic waste. The higher the pH number, the higher the alkaline waste. Sizing: Neutralizing & Dilution Tanks Sizing the correct neutralization tank for a proj- ect is done by relating the number of stations to be discharged through the system. In commercial and industrial laboratories the number of lab stations in the table below should be divided by two. Use the following table as a guide: 02 ORION Kansas City, Kansas 66117 Number Of Lab Stations Tank Size Gal 2 4 8 16 25 42 55 65 80 110 150 200 350 700 5 15 30 55 100 150 180 200 275 360 500 600 1200 2400 Limestone Lbs 50 150 250 500 1000 1700 2000 2500 3600 4500 6000 7500 14500 30000 Buried Tank Installation Tanks must be fully supported on the base by ei- ther an appropriate concrete pad that allows no overhang or a compacted stone free sand bed. When buried, tanks must be filled with water prior to backfilling. Tank tops are non -load bearing and should have a trap door or access cover over them supported by a foundation or by the ground. They cannot be supported by the top of the tank. The backfitl material shall be free of stones and foreign matter and shall be capable of passing a No. 10 screen. The depth of this backfitl should be 6" to 8" thick around the tank and then normal backfitl material may be used. Mechanical tamping is not recommended. For tanks with extensions, the above procedure should be followed up to or slightly above water level and from that point on up to ground level it is recommended that a 4" thick con- crete sleeve be poured around the tank in multiple lifts. If this is not feasible then the normal backfitl FAX 1 800 - 777 -1653 procedure may be used, up to 36" height above water level, bearing in mind that backfilling will produce inward pressures on the empty portion of the tank. Care must be exercised during this opera- tion to prevent inward buckling. A concrete vault must be used or a 4" thick con- crete sleeve poured around the tank in multiple Lifts in areas with high water tables or poor soil. condi- tions. If the tank is to be used as a pump -out hold- ing tank or similar type of operation or the tank will be left empty or partially full, then a vault is re- quired. Orion Fittings, Inc. recommends that tanks 100 gallons and larger that are going to be buried, should be fiberglass wrapped. Limestone Usage Limestone chips are being used in numerous ap- plications to help neutralize chemical bearing wastes (e.g. acid wastes). After years of successful neutral- ization, many states and local environmental plumb- ing codes call for the addition of limestone chips into acid neutralization basins, tanks, or sumps. Water is added to the tanks to initiate the dilution process. Orion recommends the limestone chips be one to three inches in diameter size range and have a calcium carbonate content in excess of 90 %. See chart on prior page for approximate limestone needed. Maintenance of Tanks Proper maintenance of neutralization tanks is es- sential for proper neutralization of wastes in the systems. Tanks must be cleaned out periodically of all sludge, debris and other material and must be checked for proper amount of limestone. A regular maintenance program of one to three months should be observed, but more or less frequent inspection may be necessary in any particular case. www.orionfittings.com Section D Tanks D3 Optional F.I.P. vent, C.O. plug F.I.P. inlet -/ Style ._4 Welded seam F.I.P. outlet Orion Style 4 tanks are manufactured in 15 gallon to 2400 gallon sizes.
