OFFICE OF DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE 10050 N.E. 2 AVENUE MIAMI SHORES, FLORIDA 33138 -2382 (305) 754 -7660 MEMORANDUM To: Frank Lubien From: Barbara Witte, Date: July 20, 1989 Subj: Awning for 170 N. E. 96th St. This is to provide you with the Design Committee's amended recommendation for awnings for the above noted property. After reviewing the proposal a second time, the Committee supports the use of Island Tourqouise as the principal color and Panama Purple as the 6 inch band across the bottom of the awning. The Committee restates its concern that the eyebrow above the storefront not be masked by the awning or its supports, therefore we again recommend that the awning be placed directly below this architectural detail. Please advise me if you need any further information. Example of rounded awning which does not mask eyebrow, MIAMI SHORES MAIN STREET PROGRAM, BUREAU OF HISTORIC PRESRVATION, DMSION OF HISTORICAL RESOURCES, FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF STATE Barbara Witte BW:avh Attachment OFFICE OF DOWNTOWN REVITALIZATION MIAMI SHORES VILLAGE 10050 N.E. 2 AVENUE MIAMI SHORES, FLORIDA 33138 -2382 (305) 754 -7660 MEMORANDUM To: Frank Lubien From: Barbara Witte Date: July 13, 1989 Subject: Awning for 170 Northeast 96 Street Thank you for providing us with the proposal for an awning for Mixed Media Graphic Design Studio (170 Northeast 96 Street). As you are aware, awnings are an important element to design downtown, and our committee has given this proposal very careful consideration. It provides the following recommendations: The Design Committee favors the Weblon color selection CP2704- Island Turquoise for the awning. As an alternative, we recommend the color CP2735- Coral. In this particular application, the committee does not feel that the color CP2723 would enhance the downtown scheme given the existing color of the facade. Regarding the installation, the committee requests that the awning be secured directly below the concrete eyebrow on the facade. This is consistent with guidelines which Downtown Revitalization will be adopting which are similar to those in effect in cities such as Hollywood and Orlando; and which will reinforce the historical character of our village. Attached for your convenience are some examples of awnings installed directly below the eyebrow, preserving this component of architectural detail. One further comment regarding the "back flap to wall" is that consideration be given to continuous storefront visibility from the pedestrian eye level. This is especially significant if future plans include extending the awning along this facade. Eliminating these flaps will give greater storefront and signage visibility to the pedestrian, especially from Second Avenue. Ple'e let me know if you need any further information. Thank you.
