1. The drawings and specifications are Intended to cooperate to
explain and elucidate one another,and are equally binding upon the
contractor so that any works exhibited 16 the drawings and not men-
tioned in this specification, or vice verss,ere to be executed the
same as if they were Incorporated in both, either expressed or implied,
as together they are inttnded to cover the requirements of a complete
and first -class piece of work in each department, and any small matter

tative, will have the work entirely under his control and may, by written

partial nor entire use or occupancy of the work by the owner shall be
an acceptance of any work or materials not in accordance with this
contract. The making and accptance of the final payment shall costtl-
tute a fialver of all claims by the owner, and of all claims by the
contractor except those 2reviously made and still unsettled, and con -
tractors; guarantees.
21. Each contractor shalt obtain and pay for all permits, and shall
conform to all local official requirements in connection with his 'work.

accent, after three days written notice to the Contractor, may without
prejudice to any other remedy he may have, make good sudh deficiencies

23. Each Contractor shall render all such usual and necessary assiss-
fence to and take all necessary precautions to avoid conflicts between
his pork and that of other contractors, and is to report any such for
the rchttect's adjustment.

GENERAL EXCAVATION. Excavate for foundation wall and such other
work as may be necessary. Alt trenches for foundation walls and piers
must have solid level and undisturbed bottoms. All exterior foundation
shall go down at least 6" below finished grade.
FILLING AROUND iASONRY. Refill around all masonry when directed by the

puddlcd and rammed and be brought up to a sufflfient height and so
graded as to drain water a4ay from the building.

WORK REQUIRED,. The labor to be done under this heading includes the
Tarnishing of all labor, materlais equipment and services necessary
for and reasonably incidental to the proper completion of all Masonry
Work as shown on the drawings. Credit allowance shall be made for
those materials furnished by the owner.
The mason shall consult the specifications of other contractors dur-
ing work In connection with the masonry or concrete, and any masonry or
material necessary or required for the receiving and thorough completion
of that work not specified under these specifications shall be done by
the moeseo mason.
CE4I ?, All cement shall be an approved brand of Portland Cement.
SAND All sand throughout the work must be approved by the Architect.
it shell be clean, sharp sand, or clean yellow gravel, free from foreign
matter.
COARSE AGGREGATE. All coarse aggregate shall be clean, sound crushed

3/4" size for all reinforced concrete work.

CHASES. This Contractor shall ascertain where all chases or openings

to be given him. He shall construct all such chases as shown or regultred
subject to the approval of the Architect. .He shall do all cutting, f 1t-
tino, drltiinr and patching of masonry required by other trades on the
building.
CUTTING. Approvai must first be obtained before cutting into any parts
which will impair the appearance or strength of the work.
ANCHORS, ETC. this contractor shall build in all anchors, joggles, bolts,
fleshings wall plugs, nailing strlps frames 44 etc., es a be re-
quired. These materials shall be placed according to the directions of
those who furnish them.
SETT1NC FR,I,ES. Set all frames and fill with mortar between the frames
on, r,asonry until all spaces are solid.

REINFORCING. RCVS, All reinforcing rods are provided under the heading

PLAiN CONCRETS. Plain concrete shall be ;nixed in the proportions of one
par cement, three parts sand, and six parts broken stone.
Ct.NCRETb BLLCK. All concrete blocks shall be best quality 8x8x16 or
6x$x12 concre a block, and shall carry the label of the local Board of
Fire Underwriters.
CONCRETE MIXING. All concrete shall be mixed In an approved type of power
operated pM xsx z txas batch mixer. Ali concrete shall be mixed for not
less than I.• minutes after all ingredients are In the drum. Concrete
shalt he deposited in place immediately after mixingg. and no concrete
hall be allowed to set more than thirty minutes after mixing before it
is deposited In the forms.
REINFORCED? CO CRETE. All reinforced concrete shall be mixed in the pro-
portions of one part cement, two parts sand, and four parts broken stone.
FORMS. Construct all forms so they will be water - tight, true to line and
fo m The forms shall be sufficiently rigid to resist bending under load
and dumping. Forms must not be removed until permission is given by the
Architect.
PLACit•K, REINFORCEMENT. JT. Special care must be taken that reinforcing mem-
bers be placed exactly in the positions indicated on the drawings.
POURING. Alt concrete must be poured into the forms immediately after
m xing. Concrete must be thoroughly tamped immediately after pouring.
CONCRETE FQUt'DATICNS. All footings, unless otherwise indicated, shall be
rein orced concrete of dimensions shown on the dra

CONCRETE STIES. Steps where so indicated, shall be of concrete, and
shall be monoiTfhically finished.
CONCRETE SLABS. The contractor shall -;our all concrete slabs, as in-
dicated on the dra ings. Slabs in living room, kitchen and bedrooms
shall be waterproofed with "S'LC ".
COMMON BRi€K. the contractor shall build the chimney and fireplace of

FLUE LINING. Provide and set for a flue, flue Iinino of hard burned
terra cotta, without hub, of size shown on drawings, Miterings shall
be cut half on each piece and joints brought together accurately.
Especial care must be taken that all joints are smooth and free from
projecting mortar on the inside.

usual and necessary carpenter's and mason's building iron. Give credit
for any material owner may wish to furnish.

concrete as shown on drawings.
BOLTS FOR ALL PLATES. Provide f" x 12" bolts for all gall plates, with
nufs - anc .' ash ers complete, These are to be spaced not more than 6+ on
centers. Provide shorter bolts, bent at one end for plates placed on
side of concrete beams as shown on the drawings.
JOIST ANCHORS. Provide approved joist anchors for every fourth joist
resting on masonry wall.

CUTTING, FITTiNG AND PATCHING At such times as ordered, and after all
other mechanics have finished their work, the plasterer shall point up
and parch all plastering, shall rake out for same where necessary,
point up around trim, and other set work, and shall leave all complete
and 'erfect at final completion.
Plastering with cracks blisters, pits checks or discoloration will
not be accepted. In all cases the +,Iastering throughout shall be de-
livered clean and ,perfect in every respect to the entire satisfaction
of the Architect.
