under Chapter 8 of the Metropolitan Dade County Code governing the use of Alternate Materials and
Types of Construction, and completely described in the plans, specifications and calculations as submitted by:
Applicant, along with Rolladen, Inc. Drawing Number 96 -19, sheets 1 through 5 of 5 dated
01/30/97, signed by Humayoun Farooq, P.E. (For listing, see section 8 of this Notice of
Acceptance)
has been recommended for acceptance by the Building Code Compliance office to be used in Dade
County, Florida under the specific conditions set forth on pages 2 et. seq. and the Standard Conditions
on page 3.
This approval shall not be valid after the expiration date stated below. The Office of Code Compliance
reserves the right to secure this product or material at anytime from a jobsite or manufacturer's plant for
quality control testing. If this product or material fails to perform in the approved manner, the Code
Compliance Office may revoke, modify, or suspend the use of such product or material immediately. The
applicant shall re- evaluate this product or material should any ammendments to the South Florida Building
Code be enacted affecting this product or material. The Building Code Compliance Office reserves the
the right to revoke this approval, if it is determined by the Building Code Compliance Office that this
product or material fails to meet the requirements of the South Florida Building Code. The expense of
such testing will be incurred by the manufacturer.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
This approves an aluminum accordion type shutter, designed to comply with the South Florida
Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements
as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do
not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in
Section 3.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1. Main blade is 3.709" center to center, 4.186" wide x .050" thick, constructed as indicated on
approved drawing No. 96 -19, Sheet 1 of 5, using extruded aluminum alloy 6063 -T6, which is also
used for the adapter slat and the other components shall be constructed using extruded aluminum
alloy 6063 -T6 unless otherwise noted on the same drawing.
2.2 Blade pins shall be #14 x 3" Machine Screws manufactured from 410 stainless steel with
fluorocarbon coating and 0.050" thick stainless steel washer and a 1/2" diameter x 1.0" long
Celcon bushings.
2.3 Tested specimen dimensions::
47" wide x 123" long overall (120" Blade length) (1) specimen for Static Air Pressure.
48" wide x 123" long overall (120" Blade length) (3) specimens for Impact and Cyclic.
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 Maximum allowable Blade Height or Span : 10' -0" (120 ").
3.2 Maximum allowable Blade Height or Span for counter top condition installations: 6' -0" (72 ").
3.3 Maximum allowable Blade Height or Span tor existing wood bucks installations: 6'-O" (72 ").
3.4 All Wood Framed Installations shall be valid only for installation below 30' above grade.
3.5 Minimum separation between glass to be protected and shutter: Shall be 3 -1/2" as shown in
Section E -E on Sheet 3 of 5, Drawing 96 -19 for all types of installations.
3.6 Special requirement:
3.6.1 A maximum clearance gap of 0.350" shall be provided between bottom of blade and top of
sill and top blade and bottom of header as shown on drawing number 96 -19 sheet 2 of 5.
3.6.2 Locking Pins shall be minimum of two 1/2" diameter (with sufficient length) solid
aluminum rods on centermate protruding thru the header and sill and remain attached to shutters
at all time, secure tightly with two 1" x 4 -1/4" x 1/8" aluminum plates with 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" thumb
screws in the locked position during hurricane warning, as shown in section E -E of drawing
number 96 -19, sheet 3 of 5, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
3.6.3 A Lock Handle (placed facing outside or inside) is required to be installed in a single
location and placed between 42" and 52" from the floor for all shutter applications and must be
activated during hurricane warning.

4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The panels shall be installed in the following conditions:
4.1.1 Wall Mounts:
(A) (CONCRETE /MASONRY/WOOD): Every fourth aluminum slat blade hangs
from a set of double rollers and die cast Zamak roller housings that glide on the track of the H.D.
Header. Every slat blade has a pin at the top and the bottom as described in Section 3 of this
Notice of Acceptance, that slide inside of the H.D. Header and Sill tracks, these tracks are then
attached to a continuous 2" x 2" x 1/8" or 1" x 2" x 1/8" aluminum angles with 1/4 " -20 x 1/2"
bolts with nuts spaced 12" o.c., these angles are then anchored to the wall using approved tension
anchors as shown on Section A -A "Wall Mounts" and Section B -B "Alt. Wall Mounts" of
Drawing Number 96 -19, Sheet Number 2 of 5, bearing the Dade County Product Control
approval stamp.
4.1.2 Ceiling and Floor Mounts (Inside Mounts) /Counter Top Condition:
(A) (CONCRETE /MASONRY /WOOD): Every fourth aluminum slat blade hangs from
a set of double rollers and die cast Zamak roller housings that glide on the track of the Ceiling
Mount H.D. Header. Sill with Sill Bottom Adapter, the sill parts are attached to each other with
#10 x 2" self drilling screws spaced 15" o.c. , along the exterior face of the tracks. Each slat blade
has a pin at the top and the bottom as described in Section 3 of this Notice of Acceptance, that
slide inside of the Header and Sill tracks,.these tracks are then anchored to the ceiling and
floor /counter using approved tension anchors as shown on Section C -C "Inside Mounts" and
"Counter Top Condition" of Drawing Number 96 -19, Sheets 2 of 5 and 4 of 5 bearing the Dade
County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.3 Built -Out Condition:
(A) (CONCRETE /MASONRY/WOOD): Every fourth aluminum slat blade hangs from
a set of double rollers and die cast Zamak roller housings that glide on the track of the Ceiling
Mount H.D. Header at the head and a pin at the sill track every other slat blade rides inside of Sill
with Sill Bottom Adapter, the sill parts are attached to each other with #10 x 2" self drilling
screws spaced 15" o.c., along the exterior face of the tracks. Each slat blade has a pin at the top
and the bottom as described in Section 3 of this Notice of Acceptance, that slide inside of the

tracks, these tracks are then attached to a continuous 2 "x 3 "x 1/8 ", 2 "x 4 "x 1/8" or 2 "x 5 "x 1/8"
aluminum build -out angles with 1/4 " -20 x 1/2" bolts with nuts spaced 12" o.c., these build -out
angles are then anchored to the wall using approved tension anchors as shown on "Installation
Detail on Existing Wood Bucks" , the sill track is then fastened to a continuous PT 2" x 4" wood
ledger plate, the wood ledger is then anchored to the wall studs with (3) 1/4" diameter x 5" long
lag screws at a maximum spacing of 24" o.c., as shown on "Installation Detail on Existing Wood
Bucks ", Drawing Number 96 -19, Sheet No. 4 of 5, bearing the Dade County Product Control
approval stamp.
4.1.4 Any combination of the above.
4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of
only the anchors specified on drawing No. 96 -19, Sheets 1 thru 5 of 5. Substitution of anchor
type or indicated embedment is unacceptable.
4.3 Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless steel or have
adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not
considered compatible shall be properly protected.
4.4 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not
in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing number, size and location, including height
above grade, of openings to receive shutters, and mean roof height and width of building.
6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawing No. 96 -19, Sheets 1 thru 5 of 5, bearing the approval
stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control Section,
clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation.
6.2 The Building Official shall ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure requirement of the
opening in which it is to be installed.

1 Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original
submitted documents, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years.
2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of
this Acceptance.
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the
product is not in compliance with the code changes;
b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved;
c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct
installation of the product;
d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted, is no
longer practicing the engineering profession.
4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be
cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a
revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date
may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be
done in its entirety.
A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to
the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The
copies need not be resealed by the engineer.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance.
9. This Acceptance contains pages 1, 2, 2(a) through 2(c) and this last page 3.
Items 10. 11 & 12 listed below only apply to glazed products and doors
10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame,
shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6"
from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one
tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this
approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chapter 36 of the South
