1. SCOPE
1.1 This revises the Notice of Acceptance No. 98 -0. 109.03 which was issued on 08/1419S. It approves a Sectional
Steel Door 9 ft wide as described in Section 2 of this Notice of Acceptance. and it is designed to comply with
the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Miami -Dade Coun. (SFBCC) for the locations where the
pressure requirements, as determined by SFBC Chapter 23. do not exceed the design pressure sating values
indicated in the approved drawings.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The DAB Sectional Door and its components shall be constructed in strict compliance with :he follow ins_
documents: Drawing No. 98 -01, titled `'Sectional Residential Garage Door" prepared by Al- Farooq Corpora ::an.
dated 01/30 /98 with latest revision on 08/24/98. Sheet 1 to 2 of ?. It bears the Miami -Dade County Product
Control Approval stamp with the Inotice of Acceptance number and approval date by Miami -Dade Product
Control Division. These documents shall hereinafter be referred to as the approved drawings.
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 Units with dimensions equal to or smaller than those shown on the approved drawings shall qualify under this
approval.
3.2 This approval requires the manufacturer to do testing of all coils used to fabricate door panels under :his Notice
of Acceptance. A minimum of 2 specimens shall be cut from each coil and tensile tested according to ASTN1 E-
S by a Dade County Approved Laboratory selected and paid by the manufacturer. Every 3 months. 4 times a
year the manufacturer shall mail to this office a copy of the Test Reports with confirmation time: the ape :i :/ens
were selected from coils at the manufacturer's production facilities. And a notarized stammer.: from the
manufacturer that only coils with a yield strength of 34,000 PSI or more shall be used to make: door panels for
Dade County under this Notice of Acceptance
4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The Sectional Door and its components shall be constructed in strict compliance with the approved drawings.
4.2 The installation of this door does not require a Hurricane Protection System
5. LABELING
5.1 Each door shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo. city, state and the following
statement: 'Miami -Dade County Product Control Approved
6. BUILDING PERMIT
6.1 Building Permit shall be accompanied by copies of the followin_:

5. IDENTIFICATION:
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and following
statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
5.2 G.E. Lexan MR5 or XL -1 Polycarbonate sheets must bear interior side peel coat properly identifying
product.
4. INSTALLATION:
4.1 Screws and Method of Attachment
SILL #10 x 2 -1/2" PFH SMS OR 3/16" Tapcons, located 6 -1/2" from corners, 1 -1/2" from each
side of meeting rail and the rest at 20" o.c. max.
#12 x 2 -1/2" PFH SMS OR 1/4" Tapcons, located 6 -1/2" from comers, 1 -1/2" from each
side of meeting rail and the rest at 20" o.c. max.

4.2 Limit shim space to a maximum of 1/4 ".
4.3 Attachments of sub -bucks shall be designed by the Architect of Engineer of Records and must be in
compliance with the South Florida Building Code.
4.4 Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless steel or have
adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not considered
compatible shall be properly protected.
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing size and location, including height above grade.of
opening to receive window, mean roof height, length and width of building.
6.2 The Building Official shall ensure tlft adequacy of window to meet the pressure requirement of the
opening in which it is to be installed.
6.3 Note: The installation of this unit will not require a hurricane protective syst

NOTICF. OF ACCEPTANCE STANDARD CONDITIONS
1. Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original
submitted documentation, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years.
2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the following
statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of this
Acceptance.
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the
product is not in compliance with the code changes;
b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved;
c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct
installation of the product;
d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted , is
no longer practicing the engineering profession.
4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause
for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision
application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date
may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done
in its entirety.
7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to the
user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all times. The copies
need not be resealed by the engineer.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance.
9. This Acceptance contains pages I, 2, 2(a) through 2(d) and this last page 3.

10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as indicated in Section 4 of this Notice of Acceptance. The spacing of
fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall be as indicated in Section 4 of this Notice of Acceptance, but in no case
shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each corner and mullion or
stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or
plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chapter 36 of the South
Florida Building Code.

4. INSTALLATION:

SILL : 410 SMS wood screws with a minimum embedment of 1 -1/2" into wood buck or
3/16" diameter Tapcon screws with a minimum embedment of 1 -1/2" into masonry block or
concrete. All screws shall be located 6" from the corners and spaced 12" o.c. maximum.
HEADER : #10 SMS wood screws with a minimum embedment of 1 -1/2" into wood buck or
3/16" diamcter Tapcon screws with a minimum embedment of 1 -1/2" into masonry block or
concrete. Alt screws shall be located 6" from the corners and spaced 12" o.c. maximum.
JAMBS : #10 SMS wood screws with a minimum embedment of 1 -1/2" into wood buck or

4.2 Limit shim gap spacing to 1/4" maximum.
4.3 Anchorage of the window shall be to concrete, masonry and /or wood framing and shall consist of
only those anchors specified in this Notice of Acceptance . Substitution of anchor type or

Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered alter a renewal application has been filed and the original
submitted documents, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years.
2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of
this Acceptance.
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and
the product is not in compliance with the code changes;
b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved;
c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the.
correct installation of the product;
d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted,
is no longer practicing the engineering profession.
4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be
cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior wrinen approval has been requested (through the filing of a
revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration dart
may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be
done in its entirety.
7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall bc provided to
the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The
copies need not be resealed by the engineer.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance.

10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
I I. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame,
shall bc as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6"
from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one
tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See on four (4) of this
approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry 1 ,� fjon, Chapter 36 of the South
Florida Building Code.

10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall
be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each
corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with
the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes
of fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chapt__of the South
Florida Building Code.

1. DESCRIPTION OF UNIT
1.1 This approves a structural mullion system for the windows specified below, designed to comply
with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the
pressure requirement, as deterrnine by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and
Others Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the
limitations contained in Section 3.

(Non- reinforced). To be used to support only windows and/or doors with a current Notice of
Acceptance.
2. MA7 ERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 The structural mullion consists of an extruded aluminum rectangular tube of 1 /16 ", 1/8" & 5/32"
wall thickness. Tube dimensions are: 1" x 2 ", 1" x 3 ", 1" x 4 ", 2" x 4" or 2° x 6"
Tube material is aluminum alloy 6063 -T5.
The properties of the head, jamb or sill members are not added to the properties of the mullion.
2.2 Tested specimen:
A side -by -side configuration, consisting of two 37" wide x 96 -1R high Doral Patio Door units
mulled together.
Overall dimensions: 6' 3" wide x 8 -1/2" long overall
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 This approval applies to structural mullions to be installed vertically or horizontally, as shown in
Section 10.
3.2 Mullions are to be used only to support windows and/or doors, with a current Notice of Acceptance.
3.3 The maximum mullion span (length) shall be. 144" mix. for 2" x 6' mullion, t'rlis dimension is reduced
for smaller size mullions.
3.4 For Design Pressure Rating vs. Mullion length, sec "Mullion Load Charts" for each mullion size (1' x
2 ", 1" x 3" , 1" x 4" , 2" x 4" or 2" x 6 ") on Sheet 2 of 3, Drawing No. M95 -08A, bearing the Dade County

secured at each end of the mullion (totaling 4 clip angles) with one leg, using two C14 SMS, two per
angle, spaced 2" apart; and the other leg anchored to a 2x wood buck using one 1114 SMS x 1 -1 /4"
embed or with one 3/16" x 1 -3/4" Tapcon (1 per angle) directly into a precast concrete sill with a
minimum embedment of 1-1/2", as shown on Section "Anchor Type "A ", Drawing No. M95 -08A,
Sheet 3 of 3, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.2 Anchor Type B
Two 2" x 2" x 1/8" x 2 -5/8" long aluminum clip angles (one on each interior side of the tube)
secured at each end of the mullion (totaling 4 clip angles) with one leg, using two «14 SMS, two per
angle, spaced 2" apart; and the other leg anchored to a 2x wood buck using two per angle a +14 SMS

4.1.3 Anchor Type C
Two 2" x 2" x 1 /8" x 3 -5/8" long aluminum clip angles (one on each interior side of the tube)
secured at each end of the mullion (totaling 4 clip angles) with one leg, using three 1114 SMS, three
per angle, spaced 1-1/2" apart; and the other kg anchored (with wood block notched out) direr;
into concrete: or to a concrete filled block with two 1/4" x 1 -3/4" Tapcon (2 per angle) with a

4.1.4 Ja1ullion Clip (Alternate to Clip Angles) •
A double tee shaped mullion clip with 3" base, 1 5/8" long double legs (to fit inside tube), 1/8" wall
thickness and the length cut to fit tight inside the Tong side of tube, may replace the o..o- clip = nFlrc
conditions uescribed above. l nis bullion clip shall be anchored to the structure as one of the three
types A, B or C mentioned above and does not need to be fastened to the mullion tubes but •

compatible shall be properly protected.

5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each mullion shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:

application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfa:tory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales. advertising or any other purposes.
