space ...are easy to install
Rugged refrigeration section goes outdoors
Matching perfectly in capacity with each size fan -coil
section, this compact unit supplies the refrigeration to keep
the cooling coils cold. It consists of a heavy -duty refriger-
ating compressor, a large, centrifugal -type fan, an air -
cooled condenser, and all electrical controls. The com-
pressor and motor are hermetically sealed together —never
require lubrication or seasonal pump down. The entire
system is enclosed in a weatherproof, tamperproof casing.
It is connected to the fan -coil section by small copper
tubes and its operation is controlled automatically by the
thermostat indoors. It is always ready to operate.
This low, trim- looking unit takes up
little space in a yard, alleyway, or
garage, is quiet and unobtrusive
rJ
In this small store where floor space is at a premium the Sum-
mer Weathermaker fits on the ceiling at the rear and a neat
duct distributes the cool air uniformly throughout the store
By locating the refrigeration section on the roof, this store
saved space inside and the need for an unsightly cooling
tower, pump, and water piping —small copper tubes sufficed
For a home with steam or hot water heat it is often possible
to locate the fan -coil section in the attic and run inexpensive
ducts across the attic floor with ceiling outlets to each room

FAN -COIL SECTION
Heavy gauge steel casing and base pan are finished in dur-
able Surf Green enamel and are insulated against heat and
sound transmission by a thick layer of glass wool. Conden-
sate drip pan is rust protected and supplied with a % -inch
pipe nipple for a drain connection.
Efficient cooling coil has spiral fins helically wound on seam-
less tubing. The large face area of the coil and the multiple
fins permit the air to pass through more slowly for more
thorough cooling and dehumidification. All joints are brazed
for strength and leak tightness. The flow of refrigerant to
the coil is controlled by an exclusive, patented Flo- Modulat-
ing expansion valve which increases capacity and reliability.
Oversize filter -drier removes moisture and impurities in the
refrigerant lines.
Centrifugal type circulating fan operates at slow speed and is
statically and dynamically balanced for smooth, quiet run-
ning. Fan motor is resiliently mounted and is equipped
with overload protection. The motor on the 38F2 is mounted
inside the casing and is directly connected to the fan shaft.
The motor on the 38F4, 38F6, and 38F11 is externally
mounted and is connected to the fan shaft by a V -belt and
an adjustable speed pulley.
Big air filters have an extra large face area to hold more dirt
and to permit full cooling capacity over longer periods with-
out changing. Filters are standard, easily - obtainable, throw-
away type which can be interchanged with cleanable type,
if desired.

Weathermaker control center dials comfort
The symbol of the finest in summer comfort is this beauti-
fully- designed control center on the wall of any home,
office, or store. It is available with every Carrier Summer
Weathermaker and it assures more accurate and more
convenient control of conditions at all times. It has a
heating and cooling thermostat so you can regulate your
heating system with the same control. The changeover
from heating to cooling is made by simply flicking the
switch on the top of the control center from "Heat" to
"Cool." A special fan switch on the right side enables you
to circulate filtered air even when cooling is not required.
Summer Weathermakers require little
This Summer Weathermaker is lo-
cated in the back room of a small
shop, takes no valuable floor space
In a residence the fan -coil ection
can be located neatly on the ceiling
of a utility room as shown above
Compact, quiet fan -coil section fits indoors
The diagram above shows the basically simple elements
that make up the indoor section of the Summer Weather-
maker. Air is drawn in from the right, then passes through
a large filter and cooling coil where it is cleaned, cooled,
and dehumidified before the centrifugal fan forces it
through ducts to all parts of the building. The fan is ex-
tremely quiet and the entire casing of the unit is insulated
against sound and heat transmission. The fan can also
operate independently to circulate clean air when cooling
is not required. This fan -coil, indoor section is so compact
and light in weight that it is very easy to locate and install.
If you have steam or hot water heat or if you have no
central heating system at all, this Carrier Summer Weath-
ermaker will supply summer cooling independently and
at low cost. It consists of two sections: an indoor fan -coil
section and an outdoor refrigeration section. The indoor
section is a small, neat unit containing a cooling coil, a
centrifugal fan and motor, and replaceable air filters. This
unit can be hung from the ceiling, concealed in a closet,
or installed in an attic or basement. The cool air is distrib-
uted by a simple duct system to all parts of the building
and carefully - located outlet grilles assure uniform cooling.
Summer
Weathe a kers
Model 38F, air cooled
Capacities from 1 .8 to 6.4 tons
Cools homes and businesses which have no warm air heating system
The outdoor refrigeration section contains the important
mechanical parts that supply cooling to the indoor section
and the two are connected by small copper tubes. By
locating the refrigeration equipment outdoors Carrier re-
moves all noise and vibration from the inside of the build-
ing and also eliminates the need for water. The unit is
completely air cooled. It may be located in any convenient
spot such as a garage, a roof, yard, or alleyway.
The entire system can be operated automatically by a
special Weathermaker Control Center which incorporates
an accurate thermostat and all necessary switches.

CARRIER CORPORATION, SYRACUSE, NEW YORK
The Universal Weathermaker is not only priced right, it's
built right too — by the people who know air conditioning
best. The cabinet (1) is made of cold - rolled steel, com-
pletely insulated and completely weather proofed for safe
outdoor installation. And notice the smooth sides. Not a
single opening to complicate installation!
The two - cylinder Carrier hermetic compressor (2) has al-
ready proved itself outstanding on tens of thousands of
other Weathermaker installations. It is driven by a 3 hp,
permanently lubricated motor. Both compressor and motor
are sealed in a sturdy casing, to shut out moisture, dirt
and air.
Two quiet centrifugal fans (3) have ample power to move
large quantities of air through long runs of ductwork. To
provide top cooling efficiency, the cooling coil (4) is set
at an angle to expose more surface to the air stream. The
humidity removed from the air by the cooling coil is
sprayed over the condenser coil where it evaporates. This
arrangement not only increases the unit's cooling capacity
— it also saves the cost of a condensate drain and cuts
operating expenses! Two centrifugal condenser fans (5)
move air quietly and slowly over the condenser coil (6) to
provide maximum heat disposal.
Special Glass Fiber Duct Kit
For attic installations Carrier has created a complete glass
fiber Duct Kit which contains: a trunk section, return air
Thanks to its weatherproof cabinet, the unit can safely be
installed outdoors if there is no suitable location inside the
conditioned space. Here the unit is located on a store roof.
Universal Weathermakers
put central air conditioning well within anyone's reach
section, seven take -off runs for individual rooms, seven
adjustable outlet grilles, and a return air grille with its
own permanent aluminium filter and filter frame.
The ducts are shipped flat but scored so they can easily
be bent into shape on the job. A serrated bread knife is
all that's needed to cut the ducts to the right length. The
ducts are stapled together to form rigid sections and then
a special adhesive tape, packed in the Kit, seals them.
Installed through a transom or wall, a Universal Weather -
maker can quickly and economically air condition a small store,
using an outlet plenum instead of ducts to discharge air.

Simple AttiOnstallOtion
Universal Weathermaker, installed flush -with
outside attic wall, can use sheet metal or
glass fiber ducts to cool each room. Through -
the -wall adapter holds unit in place, acts
as weathertight seal. Condenser screen, removed
from unit, fits neatly into wall opening.
Installed outdoors on a concrete pad, the unit is connected to
a Carrier warm air furnace by short ducts. Special screen
protects condenser coil from probing fingers and curious pets.
Dial your own indoor climate
Weathermaker Control Center, which is an op-
tional accessory, can interlock with existing
heating control circuit. Then at the flick of a
switch you can control heating and cooling or get
air circulation alone during intermediate seasons.
Here a Universal Weathermaker is suspended from the base-
ment ceiling by special Carrier hangers. Condenser is flush with
basement window. Short ducts connect unit to existing ducts.
The Universal Weathermaker now makes it possible for
you to enjoy central air conditioning in your home or
business for far less than you would normally expect to
pay for Carrier quality.
Part of this important saving is due to several exclusive
design features of this new Carrier air conditioner which
result in a lower installed cost. The unit's one -piece de-
sign, for example, saves refrigerant piping costs. And
since it is air - cooled, water piping, plumbing and cooling
tower bills are eliminated. What's more, the unit has its
own condensate disposal system which eliminates the
need for a separate condensate drain pipe.
Because it has the same full -size, heavy -duty parts found
in all Carrier Weathermakers, this unit has ample capacity
to cool the average home no matter where it is located.
Universal
Weatherm a ker
Model 63D7, air cooled
Capacity 3 hp
Low -cost air conditioner can cool an entire home or small store
In homes with forced warm air heat, the Universal
Weathermaker can be quickly connected to existing
ducts. Where panel heaters, floor furnaces, or wet heat
are used, it can be put in the attic using ducts to cool
each room. In such cases the evaporator fan can circulate
air during winter to provide more comfortable heating.
In stores and offices the Weathermaker can be installed
through a wall or transom using an outlet plenum to
discharge air. Or using ducts, the unit can be remotely
located in a storage area or on the roof.
When plans call for installation through a wall, a Carrier -
designed adapter holds the unit securely in place and also
serves as a weatherproof seal. On such jobs the decorative
outside air screen attached to the cabinet can be removed
and inserted in the wall opening.
