The boring logs attached present a detailed description of the
soils encountered at each location. The soil stratification
shown on the boring logs is based on the examination of recovered
soil samples and interpretation of the driller's field logs.
It indicates only the approximate boundaries between soil types.
The actual transitions between adjacent soil strata may be
gradual.
Based on our understanding of the proposed structure and the
information obtained from our field boring logs; we recommend
the following procedures for foundation preparation:
1) Excavate the pool area down to pool bottom elevation.
2) Saturate and compact all stripped areas with a
vibratory roller to a minimum of 95% of the AASHTO
T -180C modified proctor method.
3) Backfill to proper pool bottom elevation if needed
using a clean granular material placed in lifts not
to exceed 12 inches in thickness and compacted as
per item 2.
4) Verify all densification procedures by taking an
adequate number of field density tests probing 12
inches into the underlying soils.
The above foundation recommendations being achieved and verified;
it is our opinion that the site soils are suitable for the
construction of a swimming pool structure with a permissible
soil bearing pressure not to exceed 2000 P.S.F.

DRILLING PROCEDURES
The borings are conducted in accordance with the procedures
outlined for standard penetration tests and split spoon sampling
of soils by ASTM Method D -1586.
A two (2) foot long, two (2) inch O.D. split spoon sampler was
driven into the ground by successive blows with a 140 pound
hammer dropping thirty (30) inches. The soil sampler was driven
two (2) feet at a time, then extracted for visual examination
and classification of the retained soil samples.
The number of blows required for one (1) foot penetration of
the sampler is designated as "N" (known as the Standard
Penetration Resistance Value).
The "N" value provides an indication of the relative density
of non cohesive soils and the consistency of cohesive soils.
It is general practice that sum of the number of blows required
for the second and third six (6) inches penetration are added
to determine the "N" value. Suitable corrections are applied
to this number, in order to include the effects of soil
overburden pressure and other factors. A general evaluation
of soils is made from the established correlation between "N"
and the relative density or consistency of soils.
This dynamic method of soil testing has been widely accepted
by foundation Engineers and Architects, to conservatively
evaluate the bearing capacity of soils.
A continuous drilling and sampling procedure was used.
Therefore, the samples were taken at intervals of two (2) feet,
or a every change in soil characteristics.
