Now, we observe extensive rear of home / patio modifications being done in the rear of the residence (2009). Again, no permit is posted. Our goal is not to become the local code enforcement patrol for our block. We do however have a concern about shoddy construction and flying debris in the event of a storm. We also concern ourselves with insurance costs and what poor construction does to raise all of our premiums. The most bothersome is the lack of regard for the Miami Shores building rules and permit process; a process designed to ensure home values and the safety of neighbors and neighbor's properties. The total ofthe tested roof surface area was less than 10000 square feet, and the mean height ofthe roof is less than 40 feet above ground surface. The type of the used for this project was reported to be Saxony 900 Monier Roof Tile. This tile was reported to have been foamed in place. At the time of our inspection, the entire area ofthe roof was examined for loose tiles. Not less than one (1) tile in ten (10) of all components in the field area and one (1) file in five (5) of all tiles in the perimeter and comer areas were physically examined. However, it is of the utmost importance that, any Florida Registered Engineer who takes the task of designing repairs to trusses, should be extremely knowledgeable, not only in structural designs but also have experience designing trusses.
