It is advisable to wear gloves to protect hands from any sharp metal edges. ❑ STEP #2 Check fit of upright sections (#4 — qty. 2, #5 — qty. 1) by assembling them to insure they go together and come apart easily. ❑ STEP #3 Locate footing — consider that face of bank extends approximately 16" from center of upright at 10' goal height. Minimum pole size for footing should be 28" in diameter and 20" deep (approximately 7 cubic feet). Caution — Check for locations of buried power cables, water lines, etc. before digging hole for footing. ❑ STEP #4 Mix concrete and fill hole within 3" of top. ❑ STEP #5 Push one swaged pole section (4) into wet concrete until swaged end is 30 -1/4" above playing surface and with hole pe_pr indicular with pl — ying surface (see details at left). Lay straight edge across top of pole to insure that top of pole is located at correct height. ❑ STEP #6 While concrete is still wet, use a carpenter's level on two sides of the tube to insure that it is straight and again check that the hole is pendicular to the pl — ying area. ❑ STEP #7 Use remaining concrete to fill the pole section and footing. Slope top of footing upward toward pole so that top of footing at pole is at least 1 /2" above playing surface for proper drainage to reduce the possibility of corrosion of the steel pole. Do not recover with dirt, sod or anything else that could hold moisture. CAUTION: Do not fill the pole higher than the point where the pole diameter is reduced. ❑ STEP #8 Allow concrete to set a minimum of 24 hours before proceeding. ❑ STEP #9 After allowing concrete to set for 24 hours, re-check fit of second swaged section (4) over swaged section in concrete to check for proper fit. ❑ STEP #10 Assemble two ratchet strips (6) using two spacer tubes (21), 1/4" x 2 -1/2" lg. bolt (14), and 1/4" lock nut (22).
