P/N 202024 09/15/92 NET Check your pole system twice a year for signs of corrosion anywhere. If you can see rust or damage : follow the steps below to stop the corrosion or replace the pole if necessary: POLE CARE and MAINTENANCE Your Huffy pole system has been engineered and manufactured of high quality steel tubing. Each pole section has been individually powder coated for quality and durability:- . . - The life of your basketball pole depends on many conditions.' The climate, placement of the'pole, the location of the pole, exposure to corrosives such as pesticides, herbicides or salts are all important. The instructions below explain how to make your basketball pole system last - longer and. how. to avoid sudden pole failure which may cause property damage or severe personal injury. KEEP ALL ORGANIC MATERIAL AWAY FROM POLE BASE (grass, weeds, leaves, litter). 2. Locate areas on pole that have chipped paint or visible rust. 3. Using sand paper or emery - cloth, remove rust and loose paint completely from affected area. - 4. IF RUST HAS PENETRATED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE POLE ANYWHERE - REPLACE THE POLE I 5. Clean the affected area with a damp cloth and allow to dry. 6. Apply an exterior enamel primer to the affected area and allow to dry. 7. Apply two coots of high gloss black enamel paint to the area, allowing paint to dry between coats. See instructions on paint can for more details. Page 4 PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE ASSEMBLY This pole system has been designed to provide basketball enjoyment at regulation playing height of 10 feet (playing surface to goal rim). If the playing surface is not level with the ground around the pole, please follow pole instructions carefully or rim height may be SHORT of 10 feet. BEFORE YOU DIG I A WARNING Underground power, gas, water and telecommunications lines can cause outages, injuries, or even death when exposed or damaged. BEFORE YOU DIG — contact local utility companies to locate - buried lines. OR check your phone listing for a one —call center that performs that service for several utility companies. TOOLS REQUIRED: 1. Carpenters Level 2. Eight Foot Step Ladder 3. Two(2) Open End Adjustable Wrenches 4. Tape Measure 5. Shovel 6. Containers to Mix /Pour Concrete CONCRETE REQUIRED: IMPORTANT ! FAILURE TO FILL YOUR POLE COMPLETELY WITH CONCRETE AS DESCRIBED IN THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL VOID ALL WARRANTIES WRITTEN OR IMPUED. PARTS: MODEL NUMBER BOARD SERIAL NUMBER: Find model number on shipping carton end and board serial number on back of board. Please take time NOW to note these numbers for future reference. HUFFYSPO RTS A HuffyCompany 3 PIECE POLE, EXTENSION ARM BACKBOARD and RIM NOTE: At times, assembly of this basketball system will require two adults. Three would make the job safer, easier and more fun. Approximately 900 pounds (dry weight) is equal to 7.1 cubic feet of wet concrete. Concrete is a mixture of cement, sand and gravel. YES, 900 LB (dry weight) IS REQUIRED to balance high forces encountered during normal play. Remove the contents from the carton and carefully spread them out on a flat surface. Check inside the pole sections for the struts. Compare these to the parts list, size guides, and illustrations. We apologize that even though great care and effort have been taken, occasionally errors may occur. SAVE TIME 1 DON'T GO BACK TO THE STORE I CALL FOR FRIENDLY SERVICE When you call you will receive even quicker assistance if you have your model number and instruction sheet available. As the poles overlap, the bottom of a pole will come closer to the 5" mark at the top of the next pole. BOUNCE poles until they don't move closer together — THEN BOUNCE THEM A FEW MORE TIMES — UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE MOVEMENT !! After bouncing two poles together, stack them on top of the one in concrete. Use a block of wood as a buffer and POUND, POUND, POUND — UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE MOVEMENT !! (see ® next page) Due to variations in processing, this 5" mark is a REFERENCE POINT. Your . goal is to get the poles to fit together as tight as humanly possible. Measure after each bounce or pound.
