1. DESCRIPTION
1.1 This approves an aluminum storm panel designed to comply with the South Florida Building
Code Impact Test Requirement and ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and -
Other Structures ", for the following locations:
1.1.1 Non - coastal building zone.
1.1.2 Coastal building zone.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1. The storm panels shall be constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 94-118.2 Sheet 1 of
3, using aluminum alloy 5052 -H32 , 063" thick.
2.2 Panels are rolled formed, have a nominal width of 13.00" and a total width of 14.25 ", forming
1 7/8" deep ribs
2.3 Components shall be aluminum alloys 6063 -T6, 5" x 2" x 1/8" angle and a 2" x .087" bar.
2.4 Tested specimen:
Dimensions: 3 Panels at 40 1/4" wide x 101" long overall, (96" long for ceiling -floor mount)
1 Panel at 40 1/4" wide x 101" long overall, (Direct Mount).
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 The design will be dependent on the maximum panel height of 8' -5" or 101", to be installed
only as outlined on drawing No. 94 -118.2 Sheets 1, 2 and 3 of 3.
3.2 Minimum separation to existing glass to protect shall be 2 7/8 ".
3.3 Maximum clearance between top of panel and inside of header shall be 1/4".
3.4 Special Requirement:
3.4.1 For spans from 101" to 60 ": Reinforcing straps, consisting of one 2" wide by 0.087"
thick bar of aluminum alloy 6063 -T6 spaced at 1/3 span with 1/4 " -20 x 1" sidewalk bolts and Die
Cast aluminum washered wingnut (Part 5)spaced at 13" o.c.
3.4.2 For spans from 60" to 30 ": Reinforcing straps, consisting of one 2" wide by 0.087" thick
bar of aluminum alloy 6063 -T6 spaced at midspan with 1/4 " -20 x 1" sidewalk bolts and Die Cast
aluminum washered wingnut (Part 5)spaced at 13" o.c.
3.4.3 For spans up to 30 ": Reinforcing straps are not required, only 1/4 " -20 x 1" sidewalk bolts
and Die Cast aluminum washered wingnut (Part 5)spaced at 13" o.c.
4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The panels shall be installed only in the following condition:
4.1.1 Wall Mount (Direct Mount)
The panels are secured at the head and sill, either directly to 1/2" x 7/8" Rawl Calk -In anchors
embeded in the wall, spaced at 13" o.c., using 1/4 " -20 bolts and Key Hole Washers (Part 6)
(Direct Mount); OR to a continuous 2" x 2" x .125" aluminum "EAB" angle (Part 3), using
1/4 " -20 x 5/8" studs w/ washered wingnut spaced at 6.5" o.c., which is anchored to the wall using
the tension anchors shown on Drawing No. 94 -1 18.2, Sheet 2 of 3, Sections A "Wall Mount" or
D "Direct Mount ", bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.

4.1.2 ,Buildout Mount
The panels are fastened at the head to the continuous 2" x 2" x .125" studded aluminum "EAB"
angle (Part 3), using 1/4 " -20 x 5/8" studs w/ washered wingnut spaced at 6.5" o.c., this angle is
secured with 1/4 -20 machine screw & nut @ 13" o.c. to a the long leg of a 2" x 5" x 1/8"
aluminum angle (Part 4) used to provide the buildout and which is anchored to the wall, this
same arrangement is reversed and used at the sill, as shown on Drawing No. 94- 118.2, Sheet 2 of
3, Section C "Build -Out Mount ", bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.3 Ceiling /Inside Mount
The panels are secured inside a top track "U" header (Part 2) at the head, which is anchored to the
inside of the concrete lentil opening; and fastened at the sill, to the 2" x 2" x .125" continuous
studded aluminum angle (Part 3), using 1/4 " -20 x 5/8" studs w/ washered wingnut spaced at 6.5"
o.c., which is achored to a concrete slab or bulkhead, as shown on Drawing No. 94- 118.2, Sheet
2 of 3, Section B "Ceiling/Inside Mount ", bearing the Dade County Product Control approval
stamp.
4.1.4 Any combination of the above,
4.2 Anchorage of the aluminum angles shall be to concrete, masonry and /or wood framing and shall
consist of only the anchors, embedment and spacing specified on Drawing No. 94- 118.2, Sheets
1, 2 and 3 of 3. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and requires
to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance. '
4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not
in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
5.2 Also a Warning Note shall be permanently stamped in each panel advising the home owner or
tenant that the storm panels will not offer hurricane protection unless Al reinforcing straps and /or
bolts are properly installed.
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing size and location, including height above
grade, of openings to receive shutters; mean roof height, length and width of building.
6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawings No. 94-118.2, Sheets I , 2 and 3 of 3, bearing the
approval stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control
Section, clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation.
6.2 The Building Official shall ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure requirement of
the opening in which it is to be installed.
6.3 This revision supersedes Notice of Acceptance No.94- 0929.04 dated December 29, 1994.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: STANDARD CONDITIONS
1 Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new application has been filed and the
supporting data, test report no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an engineer registered in the
State of Florida.
Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall
automatically be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a change in Code provisions shall
be ground for re- evaluation.
4. This acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising
purposes.
5. The Notice,of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by
the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of
Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
6. A copy of this approval as well as approved drawings and other documents shall be provided to
the permit applicant by the manufacturer or his distributors and shall be available for inspection
at the job site at all time. The prints need not be re- sealed by the engineer.
7. Failure to comply with Standard Conditions shall be cause for termination of Approval.

1. DESCRIPTION
1.1 This approves an aluminum accordion type shutter designed to comply with the South Florida
Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as
determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not
exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in
Section 3.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Main blade is 4.7" center to center, 5.243" wide total x .058" thick, constructed as indicated on
approved drawing No. 95 -207, Sheet 1 of 6, using extruded aluminum alloy 6063 -T6, which is also
used for the auxiliary slats and rest of the components, which shall be constructed as indicated on
the same drawing.
2.2 Blade pins shall have #14 x 3" SMS Hex Head Screws made of #410 stainless steel w /fluorocarbon
coating. Use 3" screw if bushing is used on outside.
2.3 Tested specimens:

3.3 Special requirement:
3.3.1 A maximum of 0.250" clearance is allowed between bottom of blade and top of sill and top
blade and bottom of header.
3.3.2 Locking rods shall remain attached to shutters at all time, secure tightly with thumb screws
in the locked position in the normal open shutter configuration as well as in the closed shutter
configuration required during hurricane warning.
3.3.3 A Key Lock (placed facing outside or inside) is required to be installed at midspan for each
shutter application and must be activated during hurricane warning.
4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The panels shall be installed in the following conditions:
4.1.1 Wall Mount: Every other blade hangs from a set of double nylon rollers mounted on an
aluminum roller housing that glides on the track of the Header -Wall Mounted (Part 2), every blade
has a pin at the top and bottom consisting of a #14 x 3" (ins' • e pins) and a # " (outside pins)

is anchored directly to the wall; the sill section glides in the sill -wall mounted (Part 4), as shown in
Sections A or D "Wall Mount Section" on Drawing No. 95 -207, Sheet 3 of 6, bearing the Dade
County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.2 Ceiling & Inside Mount: In this mounting arrangement, the Header -Clg. Mounted (Part 1)
is anchored directly to the underside of a poured concrete lentil; and the sill assembly, consisting of
the Adj. Sill -Bot. (Part 6) and Adj. Sill -Top (Part 7) riveted together, is anchored to a poured
concrete slab or bulkhead as shown in the "Ceiling/Inside Mount Section" on Dwg. No. 95 -207,
Sheet 3 of 6, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.3 Build Out Mount Condition. In this mounting arrangement, the Header -Clg. Mounted (Part
1) is fastened, using 1/4 " -20 x 1" machine bolt w /wingnut at 6" o.c., to the long leg of a 2" x 5" x
1/8" aluminum angle (Part 14) that is anchored to the wall and provides the build out; the sill
section consists of the same arrangement turned upside down, as shown in Sections C or K "Build
Out Mount Section" on Drawing No. 95 -207, Sheet 3 and 4 of 6, bearing the Dade County Product
Control approval stamp.
4.1.4 Any Combination of the above.
4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of
only the anchors specified on drawing No. 94 -207, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6. Substitution of anchor
type, embedment, edge distance or indicated spacing is unacceptable and are to be engineered
separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless
steel or have adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals
not considered compatible shall be properly protected.
4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in
use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
6. USE
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by two copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Completely dimensioned drawing showing number, size and location, including height
above grade, of openings to receive shutters, and mean roof height and width of building.
6.1.3 Duplicate prints of approved drawing No. 95 -207, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6, bearing the approval
stamp, Notice of Acceptance number and date by Dade County Product Control Section,
clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed installation.
6.2 The Building Official shall ensure the adequacy of shutter to meet the pressure re uirement of the
opening in which it is to be installed.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: STANDARD CONDITIONS
I . Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original
submitted documents, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years.
2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of
this Acceptance. •
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product
is not in compliance with the code changes;
b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved;
c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct
installation of the product;
d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted, is no
longer practicing the engineering profession.
4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause
for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision
application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process;
b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date
may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be
done in its entirety.
7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to
the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all time. The
copies need not be resealed by the engineer.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance.
9. This Acceptance contains pages 1, 2, 2(a) through 2(c) and this last page 3.

10. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame,
shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6"
from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one
tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this
approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chaptyr of the South
Florida Building Code.
