TASCA CONSTRUCT IONS /95 Time: 15:16:14 May 24, 1995 Miami Shores Building and Zoning RE: New Patio Roof for Parker and Carpenter 1400 NE. 101 Street P r age 2of2 To Whom it May Concern: The referenced structure falls under category 3401.7 MINIMUM ROOF COVERING of the building code. Paragraph 3401.7(b)(1) under APPLICATION: refers fastening to Subsection 3403.4. Subsection 3403.4 paragraph (b) (1)(dd) makes allowances for architectural appearance of the underside. As the referenced structure calls for 1" x 6" T 8 G decking with a nominal thickness of 3/4" the minimum required fastener length of 1 1/4" would damage the architectural appearance. Therefore we propose to use a ratio of the fastener lengths to pr• • - • factor for increased number of shorter length fasteners to provide the minimum required pull -out strength. Using a 1/2" nail in lieu of 1 1/4" would result in a ratio factor of 2.5. Applying this to the guidelines as described in subsection 3401.7(b)(1), we would install mechanical fasteners and tin caps, as defined in Subsection 3403.4(b), spaced in a minimum Pattern of 4_8" o.c. on a.4" overtax and 7.2" o.c. in two staaaered rows in the field areLof the rnnf. Perimeter areas shall be, fastened 3 6" in thw lax and 4 8" in the fie10. These fastening patterns shall be consistent with patterns as outlined in Figure 1 on page 34 -10 of the Code. The tile is Pioneer, Flat White. The roof is approximately 800 square feet in area and was tested at twenty -five locations. The tiles had been installed using the "Foam Application" method. The uplift tests consisted of placing a load test device manufactured by CHATILLON (Model DFIS), over the tile with an adjustable connector placed under the front lip of the tile, and gradually increasing the pressure. The gauge readings are indicated in pounds. Pressure was exerted on the tile until a reading of thirty five (35) pounds was obtained. Visible separation was noted at zero (0) test locations at this reading. The roof passed in accordance with Dade County Protocol PA -106. IRT's responsibility in this project was specifically uplift testing to a specific point. No other conclusions or observations are expressed or implied. The tests were conducted, and the results have been reported in accordance with Dade County Protocol, PA -106. IRT appreciates this opportunity to be of service.
