General: The .General. and Special Conditions and Requirements of the Contract and Specifications as well as plans: and specifications of other disciplines and trades shall apply and be part of the work hereby specified. The - se specifications and the accompanying plans are intended to provide for the complete furnishing and installation of the electrical systems. "Provide" means "Furnish and Install ". .Compliance: Workmanship, materials and installation shall be in strict , accordance with the latest edition of NFPA, NEMA, NEC, ASTM, OSHA, HRS, health agencies, and other applicable'national, state, and local codes and pertaining regulations- established by ruling authorities having jurisdiction. Contractor shall also meet - requi- cements of other recognized standards where such requirements are more stringent than thpse .cited above. 3. ,Workmanship: All work shall be, performed by Contractors licensed in their respective disciplines. Work shall be done in :a first class manner,.fully .'operative, and to the acceptance of the Architect /Engineer. Contractor . .shall provide for all necessary labor and materials required for -completion of the work including but not limited to connections to related work such -as connection to existing systems, excavations and backfilling. 4. Materials: Contractor shall provide all new materials of American manufacture, bearing the Underwriter's Laboratory (UL) label as applicable. Materials shall be acceptable and above standard quality normally used for the purpose as called for on plans. Supplemental materials, products and components necessary to comply with the intent of 'the Contract drawings and /or specifications, but not noted or specified on these sections, shall be provided by Contractor as required for completion of the work at no : additional cost to the Owner. Contractor -shall be responsible for provisions and coordination of delivery of materials. .Equipment marred during shipment or installation shall be touched up and refinished to factory finish, replaced where not acceptable. 5. Permits & Insurance: Contractor shall secure and pay for all permits, fees, taxes, inspections, tests, fines and other items as required for the installation of complete electrical systems as outlined herein shown on plans. Provide all required insurance for protection against public liability and property damage for the duration of the work. .6, Existing conditions: Before bidding Contractor shall visit they job site and ascertain all existing conditions which will affect his wore,. Failure to do so Will not be accepted as a reason for requesting extra pay where the existing conditions result in extra material or labor. Any existing condition found by the Contractor which will adversely affect the work shall immediately be brought to the attention of the Architect /Engineer. Interference: Contractor shall coordinate his work with the work of other trades so interfetgntces with existing conditions, conduits, piping, equipment, architectural, structural members will he avoided. •10. •Shop Drawings: Prior to placing an order and before installation, sub ®it for. review, and all at -the same time, properly identified and bound shop drawings of the equipment specified. 11. Substitutions: Contractor shall base his proposal products' and. materials • called out for as they shall be' considered'as a standard basis of bidding. Requests for substitutions shall be submitted in writing to the Architect /Engineer, demonstrating that product is of comparable and basic design and construction, and does not cause extra work for other trades. Contractor shall te responsible for proving equality of substitutions; Architect /Engineer wi l l , under no circumstances, be required to prove such item is or is not of equal quality to the specified item. Part 2 - PRODUCTS 12. Guarantees: After the system is installed, the Contractor shall conduct an operative test for approval and acceptance by the Architect /Owner. Entire electrical work, including parts and labor, shall be guaranteed for a period of one (1) year from date of final written acceptance thereof against defective materials, construction and workmanship. Where applicable, longer guarantees for certain components shall ` °apply as required and not be reduced in any way. Correction of any defects shall be completed without additional charge to the Owner and shall include replacements and /or repair of any other phase of the. installation which may have been damaged thereby. t. 1. Fittings shall be steel. C. PVC Schedule 40: May be used where conduit is. run in concrete slabs or 12" below slab, where ,buried 24" below finished grade and 30" under vehicular traffic areas. Flexible metallic conduit: Lighting fixtures, motors and. vibrating equipment connections'in lengths not to exceed 18 ". PVC jacketed flexible metal conduit for locations outside and /or exposed to moisture. Greenfield.or approved equal. . 5. Conductors: 'Soft -drawn 98X conductivity copper installed in conduit. Minimum size shall be #14 for general receptacle and lighting circuits fed from 15 -1P circuit breakers, #12 for all others. Provide 410 wires for 120V power circuit homeruns longer than 100 feet. Insulation shall be 600V THJIN /THWN for general use, THW in sizes #6 and above, color coded throughout per NEC and trade standards. Wiring in ducts, plenums and other air handling spaces shall comply with NEC 300 -22: Where previously approved by Architect /Owner and ruling authorities, Romex type non- metallic conductor cable may be used for concealed interior spaces. 6. Splices shall be made with UL listed mechanical pressure solderless connectors, Burndy servits type.or approved equal. Feeder splices and terminations shall be made mechanically using compression type sleeves or lugs.,and connection to panels and switches as manufactured by P.urndy or Thomas & Betts. 7. Wiring devices shall he specification grade, flush mounted, manufactured by Hubbell, Slater or Lutron. • - A. Switches: Toggle type, 20A 120 /277V, single pole, three -way and four -way where noted. Manufacturer shall be Tork, Paragon or approved equal., Tests: Conduct all necessary tests that may be required to insure system is free of,all improper grounds and short circuits." System shall be checked,fo# quality, capacity and completeness to conform.with the full requiiements and intent of the drawings and specifications. Conduit runs, raceways and piping shall be concealed in walls, ceilings, slabs and partitions; no raceway shall be exposed within interior spaces. All and wiring devices shall be flush mounted. Groundingand bonding shall comply with NEC 250. All metallic raceways shall be grounded and bonded,per NEC 250. Non- metallic raceways shall be provided with a grounding conductor sized per NEf 250 -95. 4.' Electrical equipment space and installation shall be in accordance with NEC 11Q -16a and -2. • 5. Panelboards, switches, controllers, control panels; timeclocks, and other electrical components shall be clearly and permanently identified. Indicate panelboards circuits on updated typed directory card holders with glass cover and metal frame installed on inside of panelboard door.. Mark conductors with preprinted adhesive markers as manufactured by W.H. Brady Co. or Thomas & Betts. 6. - Contractor shall make all necessary excavations, cutting and reliatching as required for the proper execution of this work. 7. Contractor shall spot location of wiring devices to verify and get approval from Architect /Owner before installation. 8. Air conditioning units selection is not part. of this contract and was not available at time of design. Electrical information shown on plans is based on data from similar projects previously completed and shall be used for reference only. Before commencing work Contractor shall coordinate nameplate installation requirements with ,air Conditioning Contractor and, if necessary, update electrical protection, wiring and conduit as deemed necessary to meet NEC and manufacturer's recommendation.
