1. This approves a Portland cement concrete tile which may be of the
barrel or fluted type (Roma, Villa and Monray styles) 'or
flat /shingle (shake and slate styles), acceptable as a Class "A"
roof covering when manufactued to the following specifications.
a) Concrete, produced from a 1" 3 1/2" mix, sh'11 have a
28 day compressive strength of 4,000 psi
b) Length 16 1/2" Width: 13"
c) Thickness varies from 1/2" (min.) to 1" at lip
Head Lap 3" Side Lap: 1 1/4"
Weight 9.1 psf for 3" head lap
Weight : 9.9 psf for 4" head lap
d) Interlocking ensured by 1 1/4" by 5/8" x 1/2" deep lugs
engaging over wood battens and nose lugs and weather checks
mating with adjacent tiles.
2. Application of the tiles shall be limited to maximum elevation of
55 feet, and a minimum pitch of 4" : 12" where installed over solid
sheathing and an underlayment, applied over the solid sheathing,
consisting of Monier "Insulayment ", a poly - propylene- coated, Class
A- rated, fabric installed with 6" head and side laps and a tacked -
in -place with ring shank roofing nails or one layer of 43 pound
felt anchor sheets secured at a minimum of 12" o.c. and lapped 2 ".'
Tiles shall be layed on 1" x 2" nominal wood battens. The battens .
shall be spaced as required, and fastened 24" o.c. with corrosion -
resistant fasteners of sufficient length to provide 3/4"
penetration or through the deck. A 1/2" space between ends of
battens shall be provided.
All individual tile units and perimeter tiles shall be double
fastened using both a 10d ring shank nail or a power driven 10d
coated nail and a Monier hurricane clip w /6d ring shank nail.

9. Chimney base falshing to consist of a minimum -24" length over the
first tile course and under second course. Lead cointer flashing
shall extend a minimum of 12" above tile and shall be embedded in
the stucco. Fill first course tile flush to ridge with mortar.
10. All flashing end laps shall not be less than 6 ".
11. Applications for roofing permit shall be accompanied by duplicate
copies of the following:
a) Notice of Acceptance #92- 0318.3
b) Manufacturer's specifications and standard details
12. All tiles shall bear the imprint of the manufacturer's name or
logo to permit identification in the field.
13. This renewal supersedes Notice of Acceptance #88- 0630.15 dated
December 12, 1988.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
3. Each ridge, hip or rake tile shall be fastened to the roof framing
with 2 ring shank 10d nails. A bead of roofers mastic shall be
placed where tiles overlap. The two longitudinal edges of hip and
ridges tiles shall be made watertight by a bedding or Portland
cement mortar. '
4. Valley flashing shall be No. 26 gage corrosion - resistant metal,
extending at least 9" from the centerline each way with a minimum
1/2" edge return bent toward the center line at an angle of
approximately 30 ° . Flashing end laps shall not be less than 6".
5. Where rake tiles center over top roll of adjacent perimeter field
tile or when water will penetrate through mortar and into space
below tiles, provide a metal tray along the length of the gable
from the ridge to eaves discharging outside fascia or roll
underlayment over edge of sheathing.
6. When roof tiles abutt vertical walls, 26 gage galvanized metal
counter flashing with either top flashing or pan flashing shall be
installed and secured at 12" o.c. Fan and top falshing shall
extend a minimum of 8" above the solid sheathing and be embedded in
the stucco when stucco is used. The pan shall extend
horizontally to the center rib of each tile or 8" minimum and
terminate with a folded flange of 1" width at 30 turned back.
7. Ridge trim tiles shall be installed as per Monier Technical
Bulletin #673 or embedded in type M or S mortar per South Florida
Building Code Section 2702.10 (b). Provide weep holes in ridging
mortar in all troughs of top course tiles. Provide mastic or
caulking at the overlap of each right tile.
8. Openings of vent stacks shall have a minimum of 14" x 18" apron
shaped to fill the tile profile. Flashing shall be of lead,
copper, other approved flexible flashing materials.
