NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
1. SCOPE
This renews the notice of Acceptance No. 94- 0202.02, which was issued on March 28, 1994. It
approves an aluminum awning window with muntins, as described in Section 2 of this Notice of
Acceptance, designed to comply with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Miami -
Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements, as determined by SFBC Chapter
23, do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values indicated in the approved drawings.
2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The aluminum awning window with muntins and its components shall be constructed in strict
compliance with the following documents: Drawing No. PA -3COL -ASS, titled "PA -3 True
Assembly Drawing," prepared by Binnings Pan American, dated March 5, 1998, sheet 1 of 1,
bearing the Miami -Dade County Product Control Approval stamp with the Notice of Acceptance
number and approval date by the Miami -Dade County Product Control Division. These documents
shall hereinafter be referred to as the approved drawings.
3. LIMITATIONS
This approval applies to single unit applications only.
4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The aluminum awning window with muntins and its components shall be installed in strict
compliance with the approved drawings.
4.2 The installation of this product will require a hurricane protection system.
5. LABELING
Each window unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Miami -Dade County Product Control Approved ".
6. BUILDING PERMIT REQUIREMENTS
6.1 Application for building permit shall be accompanied by copies of the following:
6.1.1 This Notice of Acceptance.
6.1.2 Duplicate copies of the approved drawings, as identified in Section 2 of this Notice of
Acceptance, clearly marked to show the components selected for the proposed
installation.
6.1.3 Any other documents required by the Building Official or the South Florida Building
Code (SFBC) in order to properly evaluate the installation of this system.

1 Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the
original submitted documents, including test - supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight
(8) years.
2. All approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the
following statement: "Miami -Dade County Product Control Approval ", or as specifically stated in the
specific conditions of this Acceptance.
3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if:
a. There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product
and the product is not in compliance with the code changes.
b. The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved.
c. If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the
correct installation of the product.
d. The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially
submitted, is no longer practicing the engineering profession.
4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and /or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically
be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the
filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office.
5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance:
a. Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process,
b. Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other
purposes.
6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Miami -Dade County, Florida, and followed by the
expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is
displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be
provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site
at all time. The engineer need not reseal the copies.
8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of

1. DESCRIPTION OF UNIT
1.1 This approves a structural mullion system for the windows specified below, designed to comply
with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the
pressure requirement, as determine by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and
Others Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the
limitations contained in Section 3.

(Non-reinforced). To be used to support only windows with a current Notice of Acceptance.
2. MATERIAL CIIARACTERIS'I'ICS
2.1 The structural mullion consists of an extruded aluminum rectangular tube of 1/8" lateral,
0.173 "/0.158" front & 0.220" back wall thickness, with a tee shape protrusion in front creating a
double groove to accommodate the window's perimeter frame flange. Tube dimensions are:
1-1/8" x 3" (Part 08 -67), 1-1/8" x 3-1/2" (Part 08 -68), 1-1/8" x 4" (Part 08 -70) and 1-1/8" x 4-1/2"
(Part 08 -69)
Tube material is aluminum alloy 6063 -T5.
The properties of the head, jamb or sill members are not added to the properties of the mullion.
2.2 Tested specimen:
A side -by -side configuration, consisting of one 41" wide x 78- 13/16" high Series PA- 14 Aluminum
Single Hung Window and one Fixed Window of the same size mulled together.
Overall dimensions: 6' 10" wide x 6' 6- 13/16" long overall
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 This approval applies to structural mullions to be installed vertically or horizontally, as shown in
Section 10.
3.2 Mullions are to be used only to support windows, with a current Notice of Acceptance.
3.3 The maximum mullion span (length) shall be: 78 ".
3.4 For Design Pressure Rating vs. Mullion length, see "Ix Mull Performance Charts" for each mullion size
(PA -8 -1.30 for I" x 3" mullion, PA -8 -1.35 for 1" x 3 -1/2" mullion, PA -8 -1.40 for 1" x 4" mullion and

when wood buck is less than a 2x, concrete anchors shall be used to go thru buck and penetrate into

4.1.3 Cpl Angles to Steel Stud or Runner
Two 2" x 2" x 1/8" x 2" long, 6063 -T5 aluminum alloy clip angles (one on each interior side of the
tube) secured at each end of the mullion (totaling 4 clip angles) with one leg, using two 1110 Self
Tapping SMS, two per angle clip (four per end), spaced 1 -1/4" apart; and the other leg anchored to a
605J18 or equal steel stud or runner using two 1/4 " -20 Self Tapping SMS (2 per angle clip, four per
end), as shown on Section "Clip Installation ", Drawing No. PAI - DET.DXF, Sheet 4 of 5, bearing
the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.2 Fastening of the windows jambs to mullion must use either a #10 x 1- 9/16" min. thru -bolt with nut or a
//10 x 5/8" Self Tapping SMS, spaced at 4" from ends and 24" o.c. or as per window approval,
whichever is less. •
4.3 For anchoring requirements of each window installation, please see Section 4 of each window's
individual Notice of Acceptance.
4.4 Attachments of sub - bucks shall be designed by the Architect or Engineer of Records and must be in
compliance with the South Florida Building Code.
4.5 Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and trust be made of stainless steel or have
adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not considered
compatible shall be properly protected.

9. This Acceptance contains pages I, 2, 2(a) through 2(c) and this last page 3.
Items 10, 11 & 12 listed below only apply to glazed products and doors
1 0. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For
multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section.
11. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall
be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each
corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with
the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of
fasteners used in testing.
12. Hardware for nt, windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chapter 36 of the South
Florida Building Code.
