of this Notice ,of Acceptance)
has been recommended for acceptance by the Building Code Compliance office to be used in Dade
County, Florida under the specific conditions set forth on pages 2 et. seq. and the Standard Conditions
on page 3.
This approval shall not be valid after the expiration date stated below. The Office of Code Compliance
reserves the right to secure this product or material at anytime from a jobsite or manufacturer's plant for
quality control testing. If this product or material fails to perform in the approved manner, the Code
Compliance Office may revoke, modify, or suspend the use of such product or material immediately. The
applicant shall re- evaluate this product or material should any ammendments to the South Florida Building
Code be enacted affecting this product or material. The Building Code Compliance Office reserves the
the right to revoke this approval, if it is determined by the Building Code Compliance Office that this
product or material fails to meet the requirements of the South Florida Building Code. The expense of

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
This approves an 18 ga. galvanized steel storm panel designed to comply with the South Florida
Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements
as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do
not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in
Section 3.
2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 The storm panels shall be constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 94011 Sheet 1 of 6,
using galvanized 18 gage steel (.047" thick), with Fy = 33 ksi min., conforming to
ASTM A 446 -91 Structural Quality, minimum grade A, with a G 90 minimum coating.
2.2 Panels have a nominal width of 12-1/2" and a total width of 14 ", forming 1 -5/8" deep ribs
2.3 Components shall be aluminum alloys 6063 -T6, extruded headers and angles of various sizes.
2.4 Tested specimen:
Dimensions: 39" wide x 86" long overall, 4 Panels: 3 for impact and cycling + 1 for structural.
39" wide x 86" long overall, 2 additional panels: 2 for impact , 1 for structural.
39" wide x 48" long overall, 1 Panel for structural.
39" wide x 68" long overall, 3 Panels for impact, 1 for structural
39" wide x 120" long overall, 1 Panel for impact.
39" wide x 144" long overall, 1 Panel for impact and structural.
3. LIMITATIONS
3.1 The design will be dependent on the Design Pressure vs. Panel Span graph and table on Dwg.
No. 94011 Sheet 3 of 6. For a maximum Design Pressure of ±91.4 PSF.
3.2 Minimum separation to existing glass to protect shall be as follows:
3.3 Maximum clearance between top of panel and inside of header shall be 1/4 ".
3.4 Special Requirement:
Reinforcing straps, consisting of one 1 1/2" wide by 1/8" thick bar of aluminum alloy 6063 -T6
must be used at all intermediate panels and shall cross every panel web and lip, including the first
and last lip, fastened with a 1/4" -20 bolt w /wing nut & washer spaced at max. distance of
12 -1/2" on center. According to panel spans, install the following straps:
3.4.1 Panel up to 68" No reinforcing strap required.
3.4.2 Panel spans 68" to 88" = One reinforcing strap at midspan
3.4.3 Panel spans 88" to 144" = Two reinforcing straps at 1/3 span

4. INSTALLATION
4.1 The panels shall be installed only in the following condition:
4.1.11 Wall Mount (Direct Mount)
The panels are secured at the head and sill, EITHER directly to 1/2" x 7/8" Rawl Calk -In anchors
embeded in the wall, spaced at 12 1/2" o.c., using 1/4 " -20 machine screws and Key Hole
Washers (Direct Mount), OR inside a top track ( "h" header) at the head, which is anchored to the
wall, and fastened to the 2" x 2" x 1/8" continuous studded aluminum angle at the sill, using
1/4 " -20 x 3/4" studs w/ washered wingnut spaced at 12 -1/2" o.c. as shown on Drawing No.
94011, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6, Wall Mount Sections, bearing the Dade County Product Control
approval stamp.
4.1.2 ) 3uildout Mount
The panels are secured inside a "U" header which in turn is fastened, using 1/4 " -20 thru bolts
with lock nuts spaced at 12" o.c., to the long leg of a 2.25" x 5.25" x .125" continuous aluminum
angle at the head; this same arrangement is reversed and used at the sill, except that a 2" x 2" x
1/8" continuous studded aluminum angle is used instead of the header and the panels are fastened
thru the 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" SS knurled studs and washered wing nuts spaced at 12 1/2" o.c. The
aluminum angle is used to provide the buildout and is anchored to the wall, as shown on
Drawing No. 94011, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6, Build Out Section, bearing the Dade County Product
Control approval stamp.
4.1.3 Ceiling/Inside Mount
The panels are secured inside a top track "U" header at the head, which is anchored to the inside
of a concrete lentil opening; and fastened to the 2" x 2" x .125" continuous studded aluminum
angle at the sill, using 1/4 " -20 x 3/4" studs w/ washered wingnut spaced at 12 1/2" o.c., which is
anchored to a concrete slab or bulkhead, as shown on Drawing No. 94011, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6,
Inside Mount Section, bearing the Dade County Product Control approval stamp.
4.1.4 Any combination of the above.
4.2 Anchorage of the headers and aluminum angles shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood
framing and shall consist of only the anchors, embedment and spacing specified on Drawing No.
94011, Sheets 1 thru 6 of 6. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable
and requires to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance.
4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not
in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time.
5. IDENTIFICATION
5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and
following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ".
5.2 A Warning Note shall be permanently stamped or labeled on each header or one panel of each
opening, advising the home owner or tenant that storm panels will not offer hurricane protection
unless all reinforcing straps and bolt* are properly installed.

NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: STANDARD CONDITIONS
1. Extension of Acceptance may be considered after a new application has been filed and the
supporting data, test report no older than ten (10) years, have been re- evaluated.
All reports of re- testing shall bear the seal, signature and date of an engineer registered in the
State of Florida.
2. Any revision or change in the materials, use, or manufacture of the product or process shall
automatically be cause for termination, unless prior approval is granted for revisions or change.
3. Any unsatisfactory performance of this product or process or a change in Code provisions shall
be ground for re- evaluation.
4. This; acceptance shall not be used as an endorsement of any product for sales or advertising
purposes.
5. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by
the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. If any portion of the Notice of
Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety.
6. A copy of this approval as well as approved drawings and other documents shall be provided to
the permit applicant by the manufacturer or his distributors and shall be available for inspection
at the job site at all time. The prints need not be re- sealed by the engineer.
7. Failure to comply with Standard Conditions shall be cause for termination of Approval.
