Signed: (Contractor or Builder) BY: PART XIII SPECIAL STRUCTURES CHAPTER 50 SWIMMING POOLS, SPAS AND HOT TUBS 5001 GENERAL 5002 DESIGN 5003 CONSTRUCTION DETAILS 5004 WATER SUPPLY AND DISPOSAL 5005 EQUIPMENT 5006 INSPECTION OF POOLS, SPAS AND HOT TUBS 5001 GENERAL SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING CODE (REVISED 1994) 5001.1 SCOPE: All public and residential swimming pools, permanent public and residential spas, hot tubs, or other structures designed to be used for swimming, bathing, hydrotherapy or other water - oriented uses by humans shall comply with the requirements herein. 1 5001.2 STANDARDS: The following standards are hereby adopted as set forth in Section 402 of this Code: (a) Public swimming pools shall comply with Chapter 10D -5 of the Division of Health Rules of the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services entitled "Swimming Pools and Bathing Places." (b) Residential swimming pools shall comply with articles 1, 2, 3, 4 and 15 of t he National Spa and Pool Institute Standard for Residential Swimming Pools. (c) Public spas shall comply with Chapter 10D.5 of the Division of Health Rules of the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services entitled "Hydrotherapy, Whirlpool or Spa Pool Products." (d) Residential spas and hot tubs shall comply with Section 1,2,3,4 and 6 of the N ational Spa and Pool Institute Minimum Standard for Residential Spas and Hot Tubs. (e) Pools and spas of concrete shall also comply with applicable provisions of ACI 318. 5001.3 DEFINITIONS: For the purpose of this Chapter, certain terms are defined as follows. (a) INGROUND POOL, SPA OR HOT TUB: Any pool, spa or hot tub, the sides of which rest in partial or full contact with the earth. 50 -1 SOUTH FLORIDA BUILDING CODE (REVISED 1994) 5003.2 UNIT MASONRY WALLS: Unit masonry walls of swimming pools shall be designed and constructed as set forth in Chapters 23, 24 and 27. Block shall be 2 -cell block laid with nominal 8" thickness in the wall and all voids shall be poured full with concrete having a minimum strength of 2500 psi in 28 days, and containing no aggregate larger than will pass a #3 sieve. Filling of voids will proceed in stages not to exceed 24" in height, or 12 times least dimension of void, whichever is the greater. Concrete shall be thoroughly rodded into voids. Walls with a height greater than 3' -4" shall have a minimum vertical steel of #3 bar 16" o /c. 5003.3 PNEUMATICALLY PLACE CONCRETE: Pneumatically placed concrete shall be as set forth in Subsections 5003.1 and 5003.2 hereinabove except that walls shall have a minimum thickness of 6" at the bottom and 4" at the top with reinforced centered therein, and concrete walls and floors shall have #3 reinforcing rods, spaced at not more than 12" o /c. in both directions. 5003.4 OTHER MATERIALS: (a) GLASS BLOCK: Glass block may be used as a construction material in pools and spas, provided appropriate stress calculations are submitted as part of the plans and bear the seal of a Florida Registered Professional Engineer. (b) OTHER MATERIALS: Alternate materials and methods may be used subject to rational analysis based on accepted engineering principles. in accordance with Section 204 of this Code. 5003.5 WATER TIGHTNESS: Any completed pool, spa or hot tub shall be watertight. 5003.6 WALKING SURFACES: The surfaces of walks, curbs, steps and other walking areas shall be slip- resistant. 5004 WATER SUPPLY AND DISPOSAL 5004.1 APPLICATION OF PIPING: Piping permits shall be required for pool, spa or hot tub piping. Actual connections to potable water supply and sanitary sewers shall be in accordance with the technical requirements of Chapter 46 of this Code. 5004.2 WATER SUPPLY: The water supply shall be clean and meet bacterial requirements for a domestic water supply. To avoid a cross - connection, an atmospheric break shall be provided between the pool, spa or hot tub water and each water line connected to a municipal or other public supply.
