Let me start off by telling you that I agree with you that all of our residents should be treated with courtesy, dignity and respect. Subsequent to our meeting, I discussed the picture taking incident you described to me with Mr. Berg and he denies laughing hysterically. He advised me that he had another appointment and that is why he left your property as he did. I also counseled him about returning your phone calls. It appears that the Code Enforcement Department has discussed many issues with you and your husband over the years with little or no effect. This is evidenced by the number of times you have had to appear before our Code Enforcement Board for verified violations. With respect to your current painting situation, you indicated that you discovered rotten wood in one of the walls you are painting. Mr. Esher, our Building Official, has visited your property to review this situation and discovered that the rotten wood is in fact the wall of an illegally closed in porch and that there was never a building permit obtained to complete the enclosure. Our building code requires that construction of such walls be of masonry material. You have advised me that you purchased the property in that condition. However; as the current property owner, you are, nevertheless, required to assure that your property complies with our codes. In an effort to resolve this situation, I would suggest the following. You need to have a licensed structural engineer review the structure and indicate whether there are structural defects and provide Mr. Esher with a written report verifying the engineer's findings. As far as the thirty days to repaint your house is concerned, we will grant you an extension on completing the entire paint job as long as you complete the painting of the majority of the house which is not involved in this rotten wood situation. If the solution.I described above is acceptable to you, please have your contractor come into Village Hall and pull a permit to do the exploratory work necessary to find out the extent of the rotten. wood.
