Metal closure - Apply front face of closure flush at cave edge. Secure using nails 12' O.C. 2. Apply plastic roof cement directly below horizontal chalk lines to provide seal where nails will penetrate through underlayment. (Plastic roof cement may be eliminated when using two-ply waled underlayment system at roof pitches 6:12 and greater.) Nailing requirements - Use two 8d smooth shank H.D.G. nails when using tile on battens or two 10d smooth shank H.D.G. naffs when using direct deck tile applications. 4. INSTALLED THE SKYLIGHT AT THE JOSEY RESIDENCE ON MAY 13, 1993. THE OLD SKYLIGHT WAS REMOVED FROM THE EXISTING CURB STRUCTURE. THE REPLACEMENT SKYLIGHT WAS SET ON TOP OF THE EXISTING CURB STRUCTURE AND ANCHORED TO THE CURBING STRUCTURE USING #12 STAINLESS STEEL SCREWS EVERY 6" to 8" PER CODE. THE INSTALLATION WAS COMPLETELD AND THE JOSEY'S WERE VERY SATISFIED WITH OUR SKYLIGHT AND INSTALLATION PROCEDURES. THE JOSEY'S THEN PAI]) SKYLIGHTS OF FLORIDA, INC. IN FULL ON THE CONTRACT. TWO AND A HALF MONTH LATER ON JULY 28, 1993, MRS. JOSEY CALLED ME AND EXPLAINED SHE WAS HAVING HER ROOF DONE. SHE TOLD ME THE DAY BEFORE SHE ASK THE ROOFERS TO CLEAN THE HOT TAR OFF OF THE ACRYLIC DOMES. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN SHE WENT OUT- SIDE ON HER PATIO TO SEE HOW THEY CLEANED THE ACRYLIC DOMES, SHE NOTICED THAT THERE WERE CRACKS ON BOTH ACRYLIC DOMES. SHE THEN STATED THAT BEFORE THE ROOFERS CLEANED THE ACRYLIC DOMES THEY DID NOT HAVE ANY CRACKS WHAT -SO -EVER. THE FOLLOWING DAY I WENT TO THE JOSEY RESIDENCE TO OBSERVE THE CRACKS ON THE ACRYLIC DOMES AND NOTICED SEVERAL THINGS: 1. THERE IS A FILMY SUBSTANCE ON THE ACRYLIC DOMES FROM A CHEMICAL CLEANING AGENT. 2. THE ALUMINUM SKYLIGHT CURBING WAS COVERED WITH HOT TAR AND SILVER PAINT AND NOT CLEANED. 3. THE ROOF WAS RAISED BY 1" to 2" BY THE ROOFERS WHO INSTALLED INSULATION BOARD ON THE ROOF, WHICH LOWERS THE CURB AND SKYLIGHT CLOSER TO THE ROOF DECKING. THE ROOFER IS RESPONSIBLE TO KNOW THAT THE SKYLIGHT SHOULD BE AT LEAST 3" to 4" ABOVE THE DECKING OF THE ROOF. SKYLIGHTS OF FLORIDA, INC. DID NOT KNOW THAT THE JOSEY'S WERE PUTTING ON A NEW ROOF AT THE TIME OF THE SKYLIGHT INSTALLATION ON MAY 13, 1993. THE CRACKS ON THE ACRYLIC DOMES ARE EVIDENT OF USING A ABRASIVE CHEMICAL. ACRYLIC DOES NOT CRACK ON IT'S OWN, IT CRACKS WHEN IT INTERACTS WITH ABRASIVE CHEMICALS WHICH CREATES A CHEMICAL REACTION TO CAUSE DETERIORATION OF THE ACRYLIC MATERIAL.
