Pumping of concrete will be permitted only with the Engineer of Record's approval of proposed concrete rnix and method of pumping. Concrete shall be rapidly handled from mixer to tomes and deposited as neatly as possible to its final position to avoid segregation due to re- handling. Concrete shall be spaded and worked by hand and vibrated to assure close contact with all surfaces of forms and reinforcing steel and leveled off at proper grade to receive finish. All concrete shall be placed upon clean, damp surfaces. Vibration shall be applied directly to the concrete and shall be sufficient to cause Clow of settlement but not long enough to cause segregation of the prix. Operation of the vibrator shall be the sole responsibility of one man during the placing of concrete. 4. Construction joints shall be located in accordance with ACI 301. All reinforcing steel shall be continuous across joints. 5. In slabs on grade, saw contraction joints not over twenty feet center -to- center each way. Joints shall be sawn a minimum depth of '4" art a maximum depth of one -third of the slab thickness. Sawing of the joints shall commence as soon as the concrete has hardened suflicientty to permit sawing without excessive raveling. Fill saw cuts with approved joint filler after concrete has cured. 6. Concrete, when deposited, shall have a temperature not below fifty degrees Fahrenheit (50 °F) and not above ninety degrees Fahrenheit (90°F). the methods and recommended practices as described in ACI 604 shall be followed for cold w eather concreting and ACI 605 for hot weather concreting. 7. Freshly placed concrete shall be protected from premature drying by one of the following methods: (1) Ponding or continuous sprinkling (11) Absorptive mat or fabric kept continuously wet; (iii) Waterproof paper conforming to ASTM C171; (iv) Application of an approved chemical curing compound. The curing shall continue until the cumulative number of days when the ambient above fifty degrees Fahrenheit (50 °F) has totaled seven.
