DESCRIPTION 1.1 ACCEPTANCE NO.: 96 - 0731.03 EXPIRES : AUG 2 1 1999 NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS This approves an aluminum accordion type shutter designed to comply with the South Florida Building Code, 1994 Edition for Dade County, for the locations where the pressure requirements as determined by ASCE 7 -88 "Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ", do not exceed the Design Pressure Rating values in Section 7 and within the limitations contained in Section 3. 2. MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Main blade is a nominal 3.858 ", overall 4.366" wide x .056" thick, constructed as indicated on approved drawing No. 96 -181, Sheet 1 of 6, bearing the Dade County Product Approval stamp, using extruded aluminum alloy 6063 -T6, which is also used for the auxiliary slats and rest of the components shall be constructed as indicated on the same drawing. 2.2 Blade pins shall be #10 x 3" SMS made of #410 -HT stainless steel with fluoropolymer coating. 2.3 Tested specimens: Dimensions: Blade lengths of 96 ", 104 -1/2 ", 108 ", 111 ", 114 ", 120" and 144" 3. LIMITATIONS 3.1 Maximum blade height or span: 3.1.1 144 ".for installation below 30' -0" elevation. 3.1.2 156" for installation above 30' -0" elevation 3.1.3 For Maximum Design Pressure Rating vs. Panel Span see Schedule on Sheet 6 of 6. 3.2 Minimum separation between glass to be protected and shutter: Use the following table, see Table 1 on Sheet 6 of 6. 3.3 Special requirement: 3.3.1 A maximum of 0.250" clearance is allowed between bottom of blade and top of sill and top blade and bottom of header. 3.3.2 All shutters shall have a locking mechanism at center or side closure. Locks must be activated during hurricane warnings. 3.3.3 Locking rods, two at top and two at bottom, shall remain attached to shutters at all time, secure tightly with thumb screws in the locked position and activated during hurricane warnings. 4. Inc. -2a- ACCEPTANCE NO.: 96- 0731.03 APPROVED AUG 2 1 1996 EXPIRES : AUG 2 1 1999 NOTICE OF ACCEPTANCE: SPECIFIC CONDITIONS 4.1.1 Built Out Condition - Offset Every fourth blade hangs from a set of double rollers mounted on an aluminum roller housing that glides on the track of the Ceiling Mount Header (Part B) which is fastened to a 2" x 3" (to 5 ") x 0.125" thick aluminum angle with 1/4 " -20 stainless steel bolt with nut and washer at 12" o.c. The sill consists of the same ceiling header but inverted. This angle (used in both head and sill conditions) is anchored to the substrate as shown on Section C, Sheet 2 of 6, Dwg. No. 96 -181, bearing the Dade County Product Approval stamp. 4.1.2 Wall Mount In this mounting arrangement, the Wall Mount Header (Part A or A 1), which is also used as the sill turned upside down, is anchored directly to the wall, as shown on Sections A or A 1 respectively, Dwg. No. 96 -181, Sheet 2 of 6 bearing the Dade County Product Approval stamp. 4.1.3 Ceiling & Floor Mount In this mounting arrangement, the Ceiling Mount Header (Part B) is anchored directly to the underside of a poured concrete lintel and the sill assembly, Sill and Sill Bottom Adapter (Parts C and D), is anchored to a poured concrete slab or bulkhead as shown on Section B, Dwg. No. 96 -181, Sheet 2 of 6 bearing the Dade County Product Approval stamp. 4.1.4 Any combination of the above, 4.2 Anchorage of the shutters shall be to concrete, masonry and/or wood framing and shall consist of only the anchors specified on General Notes #7 on Sheet 1, Installation Details on Sheets 2 thru 5 and "Max. Anchor Spacing Schedule" on Sheet 6 of Dwg. No. 96 -181. Substitution of anchor type or indicated embedment is unacceptable and are to be engineered separately. Fasteners must have their own Notice of Acceptance and must be made of stainless steel or have adequate protection against corrosion, per DIN 50018. Aluminum contacting metals not considered compatible shall be properly protected. 4.3 Permanent set fastener components, embedded anchor bolts, threaded cones or metal shields, not in use, must be protected against corrosion, contamination and damage at all time. 5. IDENTIFICATION 5.1 Each unit shall bear a permanent label with the manufacturer's name or logo, city, state and following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ". 6. Renewal of this Acceptance (approval) shall be considered after a renewal application has been filed and the original submitted documentation, including test supporting data, engineering documents, are no older than eight (8) years. 2. Any and all approved products shall be permanently labeled with the manufacturer's name, city, state, and the following statement: "Dade County Product Control Approved ", or as specifically stated in the specific conditions of this Acceptance. 3. Renewals of Acceptance will not be considered if: a) There has been a change in the South Florida Building Code affecting the evaluation of this product and the product is not in compliance with the code changes; b) The product is no longer the same product (identical) as the one originally approved; c) If the Acceptance holder has not complied with all the requirements of this acceptance, including the correct installation of the product; d) The engineer who originally prepared, signed and sealed the required documentation initially submitted , is no longer practicing the engineering profession. 4. Any revision or change in the materials, use, and/or manufacture of the product or process shall automatically be cause for termination of this Acceptance, unless prior written approval has been requested (through the filing of a revision application with appropriate fee) and granted by this office. 5. Any of the following shall also be grounds for removal of this Acceptance: a) Unsatisfactory performance of this product or process; b) Misuse of this Acceptance as an endorsement of any product, for sales, advertising or any other purposes. 6. The Notice of Acceptance number preceded by the words Dade County, Florida, and followed by the expiration date may be displayed in advertising literature. if any portion of the Notice of Acceptance is displayed, then it shall be done in its entirety. 7. A copy of this Acceptance as well as approved drawings and other documents, where it applies, shall be provided to the user by the manufacturer or its distributors and shall be available for inspection at the job site at all times. The copies need not be resealed by the engineer. 8. Failure to comply with any section of this Acceptance shall be cause for termination and removal of Acceptance. 9. Unless specifically indicated in the Acceptance (approval), this unit is approved as a single unit installation. For multiple installation of this unit, a separate Acceptance for mullions is required from the Product Control Section. The spacing of fasteners at window sills shall be as tested. The spacing of fasteners in all other parts of the frame, shall be as tested, but in no case shall exceed 24" on center. The first fastener shall be located at a maximum of 6" from each corner and mullion or stile. Fastener shall fully penetrate the buck, which shall be the same size as the one tested with the unit. No wood or plastic shields or pins shall be used for anchoring. See section four (4) of this approval for sizes of fasteners used in testing. 11. Hardware for all windows and doors shall conform to Security and Forced Entry Prevention, Chapter 36 of the South Florida Building Code.
